Juicy gambits and tactical maestries and pearls

1)Technology Directing

2)
Settler = 3 Axemen

that's the tricky thing! question is: maybe you can gain much more in a bit longer perspective when the city grows... anyway it works when barbs attack you quickly. Definitely it is not good deal to lose mature city

^^Works better with Rifles ( better :hammers: / :food: ratio ). Check vale's Drafting for Fun and Profit article.

that's an interesting strategy. I usually skip nationhood trusting in production power of my cities, but in harsh times when you're surrounded by lots of enemies (especialy by mutiplayer warmongers :D ) it may be extremely useful. Especially when you're weak an lonely, nasty warmongers count on an easy prey and then you revererse the odds by multipying your power. What a unpleasent surprise! :ar15:
The one disadvantage is (as Vale admits) a need to plan this strategy ages before.

This one does not always work but it seems to have a high % based on my games. If you find stone in your backyard give it free to your nearest neighbor (esp an industrious one) then watch them build a big pyramid - as you build axemen. Attend the after party for the pyramids with your axemen and welcome the new city to your nation.
