June Updates to the Player Roster and Global Ranking

We are pleased to announce that the Civ3 GOTM roster or players(the "Monk Rankings") and the Global Ranking ("Player Experience/Skill Ranking") have both been updated to reflect a number of significant promotions as well as two large groups of players who have now played and submitted more than 3 and more than 6 games respectively.

The Monk Rankings is pretty cool, too! But, I gotta wait like 6 months for another promotion. :(


584 Players??? No wonder it took so long to update!

What do you mean by Total and Alive ? Does that talk about games falling off after a certain time period or something?

Very nice. The color coding adds another level of competition. I want to make it to the green area. ;) Next month?

Could someone elaborate on the formula used to compute the rating, please?
 
For my first post ever after lurking for months, I have to admit I'm stoked to see my name in the top 100 lobal rankings and also being promoted to Monk status. Nothing gets my competitive juices flowing like a tiny bit of glory, (Very Tiny in this case).

Things are looking good in Spain this month too, although I ain't gonna break any score records. Just pleased to be beating that Diety level! Now if I can just focus my games for victory conditions instead of getting caught up in pretty infastructure and cash flow, maybe I crack the top 80? ;)

I too, would like to see more info on formula's for the ratings.

I do have a request though. With as much tremendous work as the staff does, I hesitate to ask, but would it be possible to make the global player ranking available in spreadsheet format, or in some kind of sortable table? I would like to compare myself against people with the same number of 'active' games, and it's pretty hard to do that in the current format.

The table is very nicely formatted. You can just cut and paste it into Excel. (I did. :) )
 
Minor issue, but does the Global Ranking show all games submitted in the column GOTM Total?
If that is so, then I'm missing a game :cry: . Not that it would matter one bit, 'cause it's probably an old game and if I understand correctly these don't count as much. I could be wrong ofcourse (or maybe I made a submission mistake at some time), but I can find 5 submitted games (current GOTM20 not counting), e.g. GOTM 9, 12, 13, 18 and 19.
Like I said, it's a minor issue, but I would like to promote to a bachogwa after this month's GOTM. :D (if these 2 rankings/listings are even at all related).

On the last list I was ranked #26--but I knew that there were going to be some 'retirements' from players ahead of me, so I was really hoping to get into the top 25...

The new list comes out and...I'm 26th! Doh! I KNEW that silly diplomatic loss in the Roman game was gonna come back and bite me in the butt...

I'm a competent player but I'll never win a medal--this would have been my own personal bit of glory. I realize I'm 26th only because I've submitted more games than those around me--looking down a ways I can see a whole host of players that outscore me each month ready to pass me by and keep me down out of the green.

Any chance you guys and gals will get bored with the game and stop submitting? <g> Of course, I then still need someone ahead of me to fall apart, too, and none of those names are likely to do that, either.

Sigh.

It's like Cracker et al expect me to play better to EARN the ranking! ;)

I was 91and moved to 34. Will I be -22 next time? :crazyeye:

Thank you for your kind thoughts, but I'm afraid I'm not worthy. If there are any heros around here, that would be Cracker and the GOTM staffs who have sacrificed countless hours of their personal time every month for this community.:worship: I'm just an ordinary addict who soon will be on the recovery road.:cry:
 
#38! Just goes to show, you don't have to be that good, you just have to have submitted for a long time :)

I only submitted 10 games? Feels like it has been so many more. I really have to check this out (yes I keep all my gotm stuff backuped). OK 10 people that submitted more games then me and five that submitted the same amount.

Mmm yes I seem to recall that the last game of 2002 was not included simply cause my save file arrived corrupt and I wasn't home to replace it in time. So that was one lost game. Must be more ...

Uhh going to make 'Khenpo' with my spain submission (I guess).
Head of a “dratsang” or school, what school? Looser-O-Rama? Mediocre U? :)
 
No, Moonsinger, we don't want you to be on the road to recovery. We fellow addicts are dedicated to trying to tease you into one more game and then one more. That insidious fellow, cracker, seems to be very good at that.

Just try one more. It won't hurt you.
 
I think you guys have figured me out. I only build these games out of my deep, undying, and ageless love of Moonsinger. :love:

The rest of you just get to participate in the vicarious offshoots of this passionate and complex relationship. ;) ;) ;)
