Just bought this, what do you think?

Abaddon, next time can you save me some effort and just post the thread OP here in the first place? ;)

Only if you make a comment on my computer :p

Okay. It's AMD, I personally prefer Intel, but looks like it'll do okay with Civ4. :)

Ive just killed it anyway... tried to swap over my harddrive into it.. and now no video output.. of feck! Off to the computer shoppee tomorro.

You will most likely need a reinstall of your OS with a new comp..

Not a single thing on the screen tho, not even when turning on... :(

You can't just try and boot off a hard drive from another computer. I guarantee it won't work. Reading data is fine, but you'll have to reinstall your OS. Just do some googling on it so you don't accidentally overwrite everything.

wait, not even POST? then its something wrong with the hardware. While the computer shouldnt actually boot into windows with the HD you rpovided, it should go through POST.

I have blatantly failed to reconnect something.

It turns on, things whirl as usual, but appart from recognising it should turn on, the screen does nothing.

This is not meant to be in a condescending tone. Is the monitor correctly plugged in?

oh cripes now i have done it to my reserve pc.. (now on 3rd, laptop this time!)

Might want to check your memory sticks. I've had that happen to me a couple times and both times it was the memory.

Apparently i fried the processor.. :(

Not quite sure how.. but n/m

Do you have a surge protector? Usually it's either severe overclocking or some electrical surge that fries stuff. Maybe you had too much stuff plugged in to the same outlet/circuit and it surged and messed it up. A surge protector would be a worthwhile investment if you don't have one, though. Even the most expensive ones are about $30 U.S.

Did you use thermal paste when you installed the new CPU?

I am guessing that the CPU you ordered was used and didn't have thermal paste on it.. if so, that's what might have done it.

And you of course turned your computer off and touched ground (to prevent a static discharge) before you installed this thing, right?

Is the cable properly attached to both your monitor and the video card?

Does your video card have an additional power connector on it? If so, is it connected?

Are you sure the video card is installed correctly (there's probably some sort of clip at the rear of PCI-E slot that locks on when the card is deep enough in it)?

Those are the first that come to mind.

I really doubt that you've fried your PCU - even without thermal paste it should definetely last a good while unless your over-clocking like crazy (assuming that you've installed the cooler of course).
