Geographicly the turkic peoples cover a huge area, most of central asia (old soviet union east of the caspian sea), western china, asia minor, parts of the balkans. some of the barbarians that fought rome were turkic tribes; others of rome's enemies were pushed toward it by turks, the empire of Timur (tamberlane) was a mixed mongol/turkic outfit, the first turks to set up a kingdom is asia minor were the Seljuc turks, the ottomans followed them later, the Kirghiz are turkic as are the tatars (many of todays tartars are as much mongol as origianl tartar) the huns and mongols are related to turkic tribes but not ususally call turkic, the magyars were blened group but mostly turkic, turkic languages are spokens by almost as many pepople as Indo-European.
