If only Civ2 had the level of depth in diplomacy and unit customization, or if this game had the ability to trick out planets like you do cities, that would be the perfect game.

I actually meant part one. I've read some negative reviews of 2, but really enjoying 1. I've noticed 2 patterns to games. 1. Computer gangs up on you, and 2. Coalition vs. coalition, where you actually have a lasting peace with at least one of the AIs. Civ2 ALWAYS turns into total war too early and never lets up.

I can't think of any real negatives on II, you sure you are not thinking of III? Civ2, cannot remember much about it now. It was my favorite, but it was just too easy to win at any level. Too many exploits and I hate the kill one, kill the stack. I also hated caravans.

Moo1 is my favorite game, but II is very very close and I sometimes switch them as my favorite. Being able to upgrade ships adds a lot. II also has MP, I does not.

Sorry about the thread jack here. Aabraxan I now use DosBox to run Moo1 on both my XP machines, just fine. If you go that route open a thread, if you need any help. I use Defend Reloaded to act as a shell for all my DosBox games.

You set up the parms and just one click to launch the games. I have Alien Legacy, Moo1, Ascendancy currently. I have use Star General and MoM in the past.

Well, all the negative reviews I've read were about III, but none of the reviews I've read about II were exactly glowing either. I think one of them called it "more like a slight evolution than the next revolution", or something to that effect. Either way, it's definitely taken up the time I was spending on Civ2 and freeware RPGs. Already won the vote as Humans on average, now playing a tough 2-way coalition game on hard as Bulrathi and the race traits definitely change the playstyle, so I'm sure I'll be on this for awhile.

Although there are things that were done better in MoO1 than in MoO2, there are some good new features in MoO2 that make it worth playing. All three games are so different I wonder if you were to change all the names and artwork in them that would give it away, would you even guess they were the same series?

Also it would be impossible to make a new MoO game that had all the best features from all of them. i.e. having big groups of ships like in MoO1 and 3 doesn't work with the ship capturing from MoO2.
