just wondering how everyone found this site i have heard some amazing stories so post a quick reply and tell me how you found the site

I fond it because i google imaged for pictures of the united irishmen found a picture of the united irishmen scenario on this site    (lousy scenario by the way) i was already a civ player but once i found this site i was hooked, so many sleepless nights later as well as many defeats a couple of wins im here

I googled either civ III or civIV, I don't remember, and one of the sites was this one.

When I got Civ:CTP I looked for a related forum, found this and was hooked. I haven't visited in a while though...

Bought Civ3 back in Feb 02. Went to the firaxis site, and saw the community pages there. Started looking around and found a little site which I can't remember the name of right now. There was maybe 50 posters there, if that. Nice small community. A lot of them kept referring to CFC, and I didn't like it much because it was too big and moved too fast. That summer, the other site went down and I came here to get my Civ3 news/info/help fix.

The rest is, as they say, history. :)

I got Civ III in 2004 and lost my first two games at Chieftain level, so I Googled for "Civ III Cheats" and wound up here. Funny thing is, there really aren't many "cheats" for Civ, so I stuck around and actually learned how to play. :p

I've also made some great friends here. Best thing that's happened to me in a long time. :D

Know what you mean with the cheats, but i think its good there are none it makes you have to become a better player.

No offence because your probaley a better player than me but you must have been a bit bad to lose on Chieften

I think I found this site when I was looking for patches for vanilla.
I was a Regent level player at that stage; but I had no idea how much more is possible with the game. Now I'm comfy at Emperor (without a Tundra start, at least) but I still get a kick out of entirely thrashing the game at lower levels...some of my games are in the CFC HoF (new players always welcome :)).

Googling for the patchs of the DyP and Balancer mod that came included with Civ Complete in bare bones. I found Balancer Reloaded and Rise N Rule instead, plus this place :)

searched for the cheats to :p

luckely i found this site, it's much better then any cheatsite could ever be.
better to learn from others ;-)

Very first game, went exploring with my settler and worker, finally settled on Shaka's doorstep  and built zero military...a recipe for disaster.

Used to be a cheat on the station version of civ, think you had to rename a city "Cash_" and you got loadsa money. Killed the game. Me, i bought the game, searched for sid meier and found this place thru various other sites. Been lurking for a while, finding my voice now

Back in they day when I used to play StarCraft, a guy I knew (who is also a member here, but hasn't posted in years), told me to get Civilization III and gave me the link to this site.

I lost my first game on Chieftain as well! I didn't explore for ages, I didn't trade, I didn't build any additional workers, I didn't mine grasslands (why would you want to put a mine in a field?), I didn't build many roads (ell they're just to help me get from A to B, right?), stayed in Despotism, ... If it wasn't so long ago I'm sure I could go on for pages and pages. It all came to an end when a rival civ came knocking at my doors and had these really strong units (cavs) that my spears couldn't cope with!

I managed to get myself up to beating Regent but I couldn't go any further. That's when I searched for a site that might give me more info than the instruction booklet and I stumbled upon CFC. What a find! It quickly became my homepage and has remained so.

I got lucky in my first game, I think :) I explored for awhile, but then got bored and decided to kill something, and I had legionnaries, so I took out egypt, persia? and the iroquois - the iroquois were a long way away - they worried me.

If found CFC from the list of Civ communitiy sites on the Firaxis site. I was looking for the latest patch for Vanilla and there was some problem downloading from Firaxis so I ended up here. This was the first forum I ever joined and the first I posted in.

PS: I also lost my first game by exploring with my Settler - I started on all these floodplains which looked a really unhealthy place to start so I treked off to the coast only to get killed my Settler killed before I could settle :(

I found it through Sirian's personal website, 'Sirian's Great Library,' a highly detailed blog of his successful (and a few unsuccessful) games. If you want a look it's in the links list.

I was looking for cheats for Civ3.

I played Civ3 (Vanilla) for a long time, and never went up from Chieftain. I was good there, but I did make a lot of stupid mistakes. Like staying in Despotism the whole game. When I found this site, I read for 2-3 hours some tutorials but didn't pay much attention. I've never lost a game on Chieftain, but decided to suddenly go up to Monarch. And I never finished that game. I managed to get control of my continent (destroyed Egypt, I was playing with Rome), but the other continent, though filled with 4 smaller civs was way more advanced. I was in the Middle Ages and they were in the Industrial age. And I had really few roads while they had all the tiles roaded and mined or irrigated. The most advanced of those was Persia, who had a lot of gunpowder-using forces and a huge navy. (so huge that I could barely move 1 turn my caravels without seeing some Persian Ironclad. They were all smaller than me, Persia was second, being about 2/3 of my territory. I also managed to colonize an island right north of the continent, on which I had 6-7 cities, but the French managed to get two cities there as well.

All in all, I'm sure I could win the game now, but I can't find the saves. :(
