Kael gives an Interview

What's that supposed to mean?

he abandoned FFH2 for starcrap is what it means.
if he manages to turn elemental into a game, then he's officially blessed.

He accepted one of the rare jobs that actually pays in the game design world.... what a moron to have "abandoned" a project that was almost final after 4 years of polishing.

it's true that FFH is an orphaned child nowadays though. too long the sons of asena have been exploding instead of the pyre zombies...

For which I do believe there is a simple fix.

yep, but it's UNOFFICIAL and you have to search for it. not a huge issue, it's just annoying that it has been around so long when it would have taken very little effort to fix I'm pretty sure.

Kael looks hawt, if a bit sweaty :P

Anywho, I wonder if there is any chance one could take over the patching of base FFH2. I'd be keen to give it a shot, I usually play base (with a few minor XML changes) myself. But I doubt I could manage it alone.

I think Kael has left FFH in the hands of Valkrionn and other modders. He had mentioned that FFH was finally complete with the last patch. Maybe he's just biding his time until he can propose his game again.

i hope he gets to join a real game developer to help him make FFH3.

It is an interview for a very specific purpose, shouldn't be a surprise that FfH isn't mentioned.

If this were a Kael specific interview ("How did you get into game design") that's where FfH would come up.

I had to laugh at "abandoned".

FFH2 is more or less complete. Furthermore, he doesn't owe the public anything. You should be happy that he (and the other people who worked on it) spent so much time working on a free mod in the first place.

Is it just me or is Elemental War of Magic ugly and horribly unfriendly? The UI could have been written in chinese, it wouldn't have mattered much as far as i am concerned and it's just so unoptimized. Everything looks very ugly yet it lags horribly. There's nothing clear on the world map... Is that a dungeon, or random trees, how does a resource look like? Not to mention that the factions you get to play are not too inviting. 8 Types of humanoids with random face-painting won't help me immerse in the world too well.

it's civ5 style, release ASAP and then take it easy, somehow someone will hopefully fix it over the years.

I guess nowadays their market is pretty much fanboys only?

Project leader, lead writer, novelist (if you can call his weird book a novel) and CEO Brad "Frogboy" Wardell both suffered from hubris and was unfriendly to begin with ... unless you're one of his fanboys.

It basically went "um, this part of the game needs some improvement, beca-" "GO AWAY YOU BLOODY TROLL!!!!", which didn't help the quality assurance process very much.

Not quite, for a few reasons.

Firstly, Civ5 on release was largely playable. Elemental was not.

Secondly, both games have seen significant patch work.

Thirdly, as Elemental came out first, if anything you could say that Civ5 was done in Elemental style. :mischief:

I absolutely agree here; It was handled very poorly.

However, I'd still prefer him over a mainstream publisher.

Making the expansion Stand Alone was a good idea. I doubt I'll ever buy the original, but keen to grab the expansion.

Is it just me, or does the big shambling thing in the video look like one of the new Pokemans in B&W?

And He shall purify the Sons of Asena --- um, or maybe not.
