I would like to urge developers to keep concepts like pollution, rioting and the likes in the game - I don't see why these "game mechanics" should be labeled "unfun" as done in a recent newsletter from this forum.
Also It would be nice to have the CIV II (I believe it was) concept back of distant cities going independent - and means to counters this.

Pollution is real and with a huge smoking production facility it should be a concern to the Civ player. But I don't like the way it's handled in Civ3. Apart from the annoying polluted patches that can be cleaned up in a jiff - well there's only Global Warming.

Global Warming in Civ is a good thing in 90% of the cases. It usually turns terrain into a better or equally worthy type.

On another note: If you have a total commitment like release of nuclear weapons there will be an enormous amount of pollution, bringing on fast GW effects, but where is the Nuclear winter - the exact opposite of GW.
