Keeping tabs on civs during tech race

What do I need to do in order to see what techs (and how close to discovering) other civs are researching? Can I keep tabs on them to ensure I am not researching the same one to imporve trades?

Just curious. I have embassies established, but can' t find the appropriate method or hotkey to look up the tech race.

You can't, unless you cheat in some unfashionable way...

The nearest thing I can think of, is if you establish a spy embassy, you can complete spy missions. Among these is Steal Tech...

In the trade screen you can see what techs they have finished that you don't have, and the ones that appear on your side are the ones they don't have.

The trade screen doesn't seem to list all the techs an AI Civ has. Some more advanced techs only show up after you buy lesser techs from them.

I am quite positive that the techs that show up are techs which you can research yourself, but still don´t have. The "next in line" so to speak.

Yep, only techs you can research show up, after that you just have to 'guess' according to what units etc. he has and how long he's had to research additional techs.
