Why there is no overflow?

There is no overflow for building and unit construction, nor for research. So I have to micro hard to minimize the waste.

For example, let's say you are producing 6 science per turn and researching a 40 cost tech.
You put 18 science over 3 turns. And then the city grows, science output goes up to 7. Another 3 turns later, you'll be at 39/40 and the tech will be finished the next turn. But the excess 6 science is lost.
What you should do is research other thing for one turn with that 6 science, and keep the tech progress at 12/40 before your city grows. Then you can start researching the tech again, finishing the tech with exact amount of research.
And the worst part is you can't see the exact tech progress, so you need to keep track of research progress manually.

For building and unit production, I need to keep checking if I'm going to suffer huge waste. And if that's the case, I need to rush production. It's daunting when you have 10 cities and again, this becomes more tedious with various UI problems.
1) the game doesn't show city production progress on the map
2) there is no 'next city' hotkey (you have to click the button)
3) there is no 'list of cities' window either

Seriously, this game requires too much micro which isn't a meaningful a decision.

They managed to regress this aspect of the game all the way back to Civ III. Hopefully one of the first things to get fixed. Does any other 4X game in the past 20 or so years fail at having this basic and necessary feature?

if the opposite of simple is less information in an information clogged game, i'll take it

i see your point, it's just a matter of perspective
I don't think you see his point or understand what's going on here. This is making it so you need to look up more information and do more laborious tasks, not fewer - unless you just don't care about playing well. And if you don't, why are you here commenting?

Age of wonders 3 does not have city production overflow. But yes, overflow is implemented to reduce micromanagement and I thought it was a common sense. Didn't expect this from 'developers of Civ 5'
Most weird thing is the game actually have overflow in craft production - only if keep producing same item though. So you need to set enough production amount or infinite production to not lose that overflow. Again, very tedious micromanagement.

Hopefully they consider adding it in the future

I’m just saying it might be a lot of work for them to do it since it can mess with the balance a bit to re add it back in. So keep raising your voice to show them that it’s worth the effort :king:

That or they can come up with a new use for overflow since they are already calculating waste

EDIT: they said in discord overflow incoming at some point hopefully, will be extra resources
