Hi:

What's a keyciv?
I read about keyciv here, and i do not understand what it means. I know that is about science and discoveries/turns.
How could you know what is the keyciv?
The keyciv must be a frindly civ, i mean do not destroy it?
someone can explain the concept of "keyciv" plz.

Thanks! :D

Never heard the term before.
Had heard of "pet civ", and in terms of science and discovery turns, there is the concept of the "Oedo year", but "keyciv" is new to me, and i am an old hand in these here parts.
Where did you see such a reference?

The Key Civ is the one that the game correlates to your power rating i the game. If you are rated as 'superior', your key civ is purple. If you are rated as 'patheic' (for a One City Challenge game) your key civ is white.

The game checks your science progress to your key civ. If you are well ahead of them, it penalizes your science research by making it take more turns to get each advance.

So, what you can do is gift some of your techs to your key civ so they stay clsoe to your level of research the entire game. That will make your science research go quicker.

The keyciv (or target civ, or reference civ) was discovered by samson.
Duke of Marlbrough just explained how it works.
It is interesting to know that you can be your own target civ (for example if you have chosen a purple civ, sioux or indian, and you are 'supreme', which means #1 in power). Then you just don't care gifting techs to anyone for speeding your research, because you are already researching at maximal speed (number of beakers required for next tech cannot be lower).
This is the reason why many good players now like choosing to play with a purple civ, because they hope to become supreme ASAP and don't bother gifting techs to others.

and if ur between suprteme and pathetic? what is ur key civ?
Is there a formula to figure it out?

Copied from a previous post:

The relationship between the Key Civ and the Human Player
involves the Power ratings and Turn positions.
Each civ's Turn Position is determined by its color:

1 White
2 Green
3 Dark Blue
4 Yellow
5 Light Blue
6 Orange
7 Purple

Power Ratings are reported by the Foreign Minister:

1 Pathetic
2 Weak
3 Inadequate
4 Moderate
5 Strong
6 Mighty
7 Supreme
