Any helpfull techniques on killing acheron? First of all it seems like all my units are feared when they try to attack him, secondly at the time he arrives my units were still only the basic warrior unit. Even my two level 11 vampires got feared when trying to attack him, and were also btw outpowered 2:1...

Try the spell courage, which can be learnt by adepts with the spirit I promotion. You will see, fear isn't a problem anymore. If you want that nobody is killed by Archeron, use your heros. They can beat him if properly promoted (The hero Magnadine of the Hippus even is able to capture barbarian units, so Archeron too! It's fun to "visit" your friends with a dragon :D ).

Agree. You usually have to wait until you have some heroes or T3 units to take him out. Alternatively, you can throw a bunch of siege weapons at him and then mop him up with some lower level melee units.

I do the siege weapon approach, or just leave strong units defending my border to his city and wait it out...

Wow. I never thought of that. That's really cool...

Umm, now that I think of it... can Magnadine capture the four horsemen too? :0 if so, that strikes me as being just a bit overpowered :P

I was able to kill him yesterday with my trebuthers (?) but I had not enough units to take the city in that turn and AI too that chance *angry*

I usually do not use save/load but this will be the exception. First war the AI and then the dragon :)

Do you get a reward for defeating him? I read something about gems and stuff but for all my games it is the first time I actually got near him with land units.

Yes, you can carry away the little Dragon's Hoard pushcart which contains Gems, Gold, and Mithril. Take it to your city and you also get gold, culture and, I think, XP.

A great trick is to put a couple of your strong units near the city (but I guess far enough away now with the fireballs), then, declare war and steal it away from the civ that is taking it back to their city.

Also, one thing I have noticed in games before the fireball-spitting Acheron version that often the AI would send stacks of units to sit outside the city - especially those with the BAR trait. I'm not sure why. They couldn't attack anyway. Maybe they were waiting to spring an ambush on the civ that defeated the dragon and was carting away the Horde.

I still think heroes and certain other units should be able to overcome Fear and attack without having Courage.

hmm, is this fire-specific ?

The Dragon's Hoard has been there for a while. The unit apears when Acheron's city is razed, otherwse it remains in the city as a wonder. The unit has the ability to build the wonder in another city. It gives gold, gems, mithril, a little culture, gold, and GPP (Great Commander).

aaah, I never razed Acheron's city because I didn't know you could move away the wonder ^^

btw, Any city with the Dragon's Horde that is razed will create the little cart unit , not just Acheron's original city. Clever on the part of Kael, or whoever invented the system.
