Alright, I was playing as the Americans with some 10 other civs on a huge map. I finally get into contact with England on the huge continent I'm on, and I did a check and saw that they're capital is York. Okay, I thought, I saw evidence of a war between England and Russia, so maybe London was razed, however unlikely that would be.

So I play and realize that many of England's cities are missing and they're getting to cities with "2" after it really quickly, even a New London 2, but no original London. Very odd.

:scan:

So I eventually get Caravel and Magellan's Voyage and I start to explore the world. Eventually I come in contact with Joanie

I trade her my world map for everything she's got and I noticed something. Contacts with the English? What the hell?

Alright, so I get the map and contacts and I see English cities in red instead of the usual orange. Okay...? This England had London as the capital! And they also had the other English cities! Now I know civil war isn't a part of Civ III, nor can I see the English settling so much territory on two halves of the world in the ancient age (must've been some galley!).

So now I got two Englands both with Lizzie's, one annoyed, one polite. Boy, am I confused!

So, basically, has this ever happened to any of you? I look forward to any stories if this has!

This isn't surprising. This is the result of editing the game, by usually adding in a modpack. I've had this happen before, it's nothing big, it simply means theres a little bug when choosing civilizations. Start a game with 16 civilizations and dictate what civilizations you want in the game, not random, and then begin a new game after that little new game you just started up is done it's first turn.

I had two Australia's once. :)

By using the editor. You can have Australia, Canada, Brazil, or any nation/civ you want. Finding and installing leaderheads is the only problem, though, but some of these you can find in the graphic modpacks forum. Heck you could even add in the Taliban so you can crush them. ;)

I've never had it happen either, but have heard of it happening to others. I can easily see it happening if playing on a custom map and you move the starting positions around and forget to erase the old starting postion of one, thus you had 2 starting positions assigned to 1 civ.

Strange thing is...I was playing an unmodded game.

The save game exceeds the limit of the 250k allowed. I'll try to get an image to attach here.

You mentioned Marla's map in another thread. Were you playing on Marla's map? If so, that might be were the problem is. There are so many versions of her map around. Some have mod changes to them. Some were created with using an earlier patch, so that there may be some problems with going from an old version to the v1.29f patch. Some may have moved the starting postions around. Not likely that they moved England around, but if one version had some random starting locations (in earlier patches you could designate starting locations, but not who starts where), and they forgot to delete one of these random starting locations, that could have caused it.

Nope, this one was random.

Here's some screenshots of the "evidence.":scan:

Damn..what does it take to put something in here with this limit? Each screenshot is 2,305 KB

Yankee, make sure it is a .jpg file and not a .bmp . And if you are using a paint program, you can try cropping the picture down in size, or cutting some of it off. If you know how to put it in a .zip file, that would also make it a smaller file and we could just download it to look at it.

Yankee: simply upload via the easy upload feature (see the FAQ on how to do that), then link to the pics! Alos, make the jpgs. You can also upload the sav-file that way.

Of course! Silly me! This is what concussions do to your mind....

Some small pics coming up/

Here's the England with it's capital at York....with London 2 nearby.

The England that I just encountered, capital of London.
