KISS Files - Term 5

please excuse, but I didn't think they had a harbor yet. But maybe I missed something in The Looking Glass?

In any case, I would leave the Ivory off the table. If they want something more, they will ask for it. We can give them ivory at that point, so it will seem like we are giving them something in addition. You know, giving twice, instead of just once. Make sense?

No giving anything! Its there fault we are in this mess, we shouldnt be paying them ivory to get peace, if they are gonna treat us like trash lets start a war, this is turning into a delay game, we are just delaying the inebitable...

I think it's a great idea Fe - but Cham is probably right - it's more likely to be percieved as weakness than goodwill.

Let's leave talks of ivory for later. There's already plenty to digest in that letter.

I do not like the five turn clause because we already have a clause that means we cannot have war until turn 104 and I will say that we attack the turn after. I really have lost any patience with KISS and the quicker we can either get them to admit that they were wrong or that we pound them into submission and they become just a state that pays us to be in peace with us.

I think it is important to keep the 5 turn clause in there. We are now in a Republic and we're not quite ready to fight the war.

While I totally agree that we need to punish the increasingly annoying KISS team, we need to do it in a way that will not leave us trailing the nutters across the water. And that means delaying the war until we're ready, and having the 5 turn clause helps do that.

We aren't in any position right now to pound KISS into submission, and they will never admit to being wrong.

Let's not forget: they think they were right, and that we were the ones who were wrong. KISS are probably saying the exact same thing as C_H: Let's slap MIA around, raze a couple of their cities, and get them to admit that they stabbed us in the back!

But they aren't going to be able to raze a couple of cities. Our defenses are growing stronger by the minute. We aren't going to admit that we stabbed them in the back (we acted honorably, if cleverly). So I think it's really unreasonable to expect them to 'admit they were wrong'.

When the time comes for peace negotiations (hopefully soon!), we must be careful not to rub their noses in anything. A useful peace treaty is more likely to be achieved if we hold back our pride and sneering for our private forum, and treat them with respect publicly. No one likes to be made a fool of.

I really do not like that clause.

Has anyone been following the comments in the turn-tracker thread? It's probably nothing, but when KISS asks for an extension, I get nervous.

I think the letter should go off immediately, if possible. Anyone else jumpy?

EDIT: I just checked Fe's last version, and there are a couple of house keeping things to deal with:

1. I think the consensus is to remove the Ivory clauses.

2. A line break got deleted, and now the summation paragraph is part of TNT Reason #4. Line break should be:
We acted completely honourably in pursuing the trade with TNT. line break here, start new paragraph. We are indeed disappointed about what our relationship has come to....

Other than that, I think we should send it in so that Tubby can get angry at us all over again right before playing their turn. :)

I have to say I am more nervous about the fact that Kuningas is now apparently the Dnuts turn player. I hoped he wasn’t very active. He is one of the absolutely very best around.
[chamnix was responding to my post above concerning KISS' recent extension request]

Maybe we can use this knowledge as a way to convince KISS to call off their dogs and attack DNUTs instead :)

If my vote matters, I'd like to see the ivory clause gone, clean up the line break, and send this letter asap.

I think it's been thoroughly analyzed.

Fe had seemed to be fine with removing the Ivory clause. He had also mentioned that he would send in around 12 hours, but that mark passed 2 hours ago. I'll edit, post here, and then send.

Idiot Whomp and all the peoples of KISS

It is with great hope that we respond to Whomp's letter of February 15. Our continent is on the brink of war indeed, and MIA does not want to go to war against our neighbours to the north. With the goal of re-establishing peace, here is MIA's position:

We reiterate our point of view regarding our trade with TNT. Our honour is important to us, and we are insulted by your continuing accusations that we broke our deal:

1. The original 7 Tiers treaty is not crystal clear as to whether the tech trading portion can be broken independently of the peace portion or not. Whomp and Daghda (at least) felt it could be, and apparently some of the rest of KISS did not.

2. KISS sent an official letter to our gmail on January 4 stating clearly that the tech portion was cancelled. This lead us to believe that your interpretation was that the tech trading was independent of peace. This interpretation (of your official correspondence) was confirmed in a chat on January 7.

3. At no time did anyone from KISS tell us that this was not the correct interpretation. Over a week passed between the official correspondence, the follow-up chat among Chamnix, Whomp, Tubby and Daghda; and the completion of the deal between MIA and TNT. If anyone from KISS wanted to disavow the official correspondence of January 4 or the statements made in that chat, there was ample opportunity to do so. It is beyond our control if the text of the chat was not made available for the other member of KISS to read and respond to.

4. Though the 7 Tiers contained different possible interpretations, it was obvious to us which interpretation KISS had chosen because the tech trading portion was cancelled by the leaders of both teams in official correspondence. We acted completely honourably in pursuing the trade with TNT.

We are indeed disappointed about what our relationship has come to. We are glad in our hearts when we think back on how much stronger KISSMIA was becoming compared to BattleIsle before things went wrong. We have no desire to see war on our continent and remain very hopeful that it can be averted, especially since DNUTS (now under Kuningas) and TNT have declared an end to hostilities. An open dialogue would be in both parties' best interests and MIA wants to discuss how we can work together and work at peace.

Unilateral Oath of Peace:

We are willing to make the first step towards peace by declaring that MIA will NOT attack without giving you 5 turns warning. As a sign of good faith, we will not expect a similar promise from you: KISS is not bound in any way, shape, or form; this is a one-sided Promise.

Conditions:
> As long as you refrain from sending any units (or boats) south of the jungle (and turn around the units that are already south) then we will make good on our promise not to attack without warning.
> We will also reciprocate, and will refrain from sending any units or boats north of the jungle.
> This promise may only be honourably revoked with 5 turns official written notice.

We hope this will not be the new permanent state of our relationship – but rather this will serve as a good faith starting place for us to begin talking again.

Respectfully,

Feaurius III

EDIT: sent to kiss gmail, PM to Tubby and Whomp.
