Well since the previous one was a train wreck, it's time to pick up the pieces and get on the next train.

Pre-Amble
I can regularly win my games on Prince but when I step up to Monarch I regularly struggle. I'd like to practise my city specialization in an effort to improve my city selection and building priorities.

This idea is plagiarized from Greyfox in the SG: Fox-03 -- Trying to be Special, so most of the credit must go to him. I've copied lots and just added a bit to take it forward to BtS.

The Game

As per the original game, the following rules apply:
  • Every city founded must be designated as one of the following:
    • Production City: a city focused on production.
    • Science City: a city focused on generating beakers.
    • Gold City: a city focused on generating gold.
    • GP-Farm: a city focused on breeding Great People.
    • Hybrid City: focused on more than one thing.
    • Espionage City: a city focused on creating espionage points.
  • One GP-Farm and one Espionage city must be allocated. The espionage city will have to picked by the time we have 8 cities.
  • For every Hybrid city founded, there must be at least two non-hybrid cities.
  • Cities taken from the AI need to be allocated a specialisation immediately and start building the necessary buildings.
  • City Designation cannot be changed after city is founded, with the following exception:
    • Holy City: non-Gold City may be changed into a Gold City or Hybrid City if a shrine is built.
    • Espionage City: if when we get to 8 cities, we haven't allocated an espionage city, we can change one of our older cities to espionage.
  • Each city must prioritize city improvements according to their designation:
    • Prod City: Barracks, Coal Plant OR Hydro Plant (for river cities), Drydock, Factory, Forge, Hydro Plant, Industrial Park, Levee, Stable
    • Gold City: Bank, Grocer, Market, Customs House, Harbor
    • Science City: Academy, Monastries (all available), Laboratory, Library, Observatory, University
    • Espionage City: Castle, Courthouse, Intelligence Agency, Jail, Security Bureau, Walls (for the Castle)
  • The following wonders can only be built in a certain city type:
    • Prod City: Heroic Epic, Ironworks, Maoi Statues, West Point, Red Cross, Military Academy, Pentagon
    • Gold City: Wall Street, Temple of Artemis
    • Science City: Academy, Great Library, Oxford University
    • GP-Farm: National Epic, Globe theatre
    • Espionage City: Scotland Yard
  • Prioritized buildings means that these buildings take priority over all other buildings in their respective cities. Current builds may be finished prior to starting the new build. The following exceptions apply:
    • Wonders: All world, national and project type wonders.
    • Growth/Happiness related Buildings (when needed): Granary, Lighthouse, Aqueduct, Harbour, Theatres, Temples, Colosseum, Public Transportation, Recycling Centre, Supermarket
    • Units: Military Units for Prod City, Non-Military Units for Non-Prod City
  • Corporations do not need to be prioritised or even founded, but if we get any corporation in any of our cities, the following must be spread according the the city designations:
    • Prod City: Creative Constructions OR Mining Inc.
    • Gold City: Civilized Jewellers
    • Science City: Aluminium Co., Standard Ethanol

Etiquette

Normal SG ethiquette applies. Standard 24hrs got it, 48hrs to play and report.

Original Game Settings

  • Difficulty level: Monarch (at minimum)
  • Map type: Open to discussion Continents
  • Map size: Standard
  • Game speed: Epic
  • Civ & Leader: Either Random or we can select a specific one if anybody has a preference.
  • Victory conditions: All enabled.

...we're still waiting for a final roster and difficulty settings and maybe some map changes and maybe a specific leader, so let's finalize that and put up a start...

Roster to be finalized, reserved for veterans of the KK06 thread.

Checking in.

As for the map, continents can be either good or bad. As we saw last try, it can be bad. But we might get lucky and get a whole continent to ourselves. If you don't want to do continents, we could just do pangaea/lakes. Contacts will be made much sooner and there's less time to grab land.

Organized trait proved to be useful atleast on my shadow game, as I was struggling with the maintenance costs. Dunno so much about the spiritual. Maybe we could swap that for financial, which would let us to more freely specialise commerce/science cities. Or perhaps philosophical for our gp farm(s).

sorry again guys. Internet is fixed finally. Would be happy to be in this one, or continu the other one.

LOL. Thanks Robo Kai. Since you offered to post a new save, I'll let you do it then. Saves me installling CIV and BtS on my friends PC just to generate a save.

I don't mind changing to Pangaea but I think Monarch is the way to go.

All righty generating shortly, after sis finishes up checking her friendster.
We will be on Pangaea, random leader, and other settings as shown above.

As my little office project thingy is over, if no one feels like starting, I think I can start the game also after we decide on a capital location, etc.

The RNG has decided: we shall be Napoleon of France.

I had already moved the warrior to a hut, getting some gold.

Any thoughts and roster, before we start?

roster don't mind

city should be gp science or hybrid. :P I would let it depend on the surrounding langs. Cottage when other sites has low commerce, hybruid when low on production and gp farm otherwise

tech AH

and the site looks good.
3 hills
4 fp
pigs

nice start ^^

That is a nice location, I say we settle on the spot, and the 1st city is either gold/tech or GP Pump. Going to depend on if we either irrigate those FPs or Cottage them.

Like I said put me near the bottom. Your location looks good I'm not picky enough with my starts. I usally drop-ship where I land.

Notes:
1. if we settle on the spot, we might be wasting tiles on the east side.
2. since we're Charismatic, who wants to go Stonehenge?
3. possible tech order: Mysitcism (if henge) -> Mining -> Bronze -> Pottery or AH
Depending on our goals for our capital, if we're gonna turn it into a commerce city, we should prioritize pottery over AH. Also building Henge would be great while growing the city (in between building workers/settlers).

Since kikinit hasn't posted the roster, who wants to start?

lurker's comment: Plus, health will be a severe issue. 1 East seems like a better choice I think.

Ye one east would waste atleast one flood plains (maybe more if the river goes on), but would get us stone @ first border pop. Stone would help with henge and other wonders but we'd have to make an early worker to connect it too.

I always like going for stonehenge when you're not creative. I dislike building monuments but in this game with Charismatic, we'll get an extra +1 happy from them so they will be more valuable.

You want me to post a roster? Hmmm. Robo Kai, you want to start it off then? I played the most recent set in the last game and started the last game so I'm hoping someone else can do the start.

Roster:
- Kikinit -- Just Played
- Robo Kai -- Up
- Sealot -- On-Deck
- glenmetz
- Xyqtt
- pat4

Waiting to see if they want to join.

Let's go!!! Playing now.

Tech plan: Mysti-Masonry-Mining-Bronze-Pottery
Build plan: Worker first to connect stone faster.

4000BC
Paris established at berserks' recommended site.
We also get free wheat which wasn't revealed a while ago. What luck!

3800-3700BC
Paris border expands, and look, there's more riches over there... must explore to find out more!

3625BC
Mysticism is in. Head for Masonry.
Forest grows near Paris.

3575BC
Hinduism FIDL

3475BC
Buddhism FIDL
We meet the worst neighbor ever™, Tokugawa, on the west side.
...as well as Survayaman, from the south side.
kk06b3neighborsdn5.jpg

3425BC
Worker finishes, moves to Stone. Masonry in 1 turn.
RIGHT ON TIME. :D
Capital starts henge.

3400BC
Masonry is in, worker starts quarrying the stone... and roading to home.

2675-2600BC
We meet Joao north of us.
And... was there any doubt?

Now, no more building libraries for border pop like last time.

I stop after Stonehenge built. I go start a Settler next, but next player may veto (I suggest warrior or 2 for possible barb attack, and grow to size 4 too before build/whip Settler). We are 1 turn from Bronze Working.

Here is the land around us, we explored quite a bit:

nice start. Are we going to gamble for the mids? And what kind of city should our captial be? I'm still thinking of hybrid, becae rich food, some nice production.

Got it.

gj getting henge. we'll need some warriors for defense. after that make a settler, settle gold city (or copper, depends do we have it and where will it be). Gold city would really help our research with those desert golds mined. we should propably settle it so that we get the wheat and can support those gold mines early. capital has flood plains it'll manage without the wheat for now.

Any suggestions on the tech path? atleast AH for the pigs and agri for some flood plains. archery if there's no copper. I'll propably play later tonight, throw in the ideas.

We already have agri due to French starting tech. I think we should cottage the flood plains ASAP, so pottery after bronze is a good idea, maybe AH for pigs.

After that we could go writing->alphabet(trade up to priesthood)->code of laws(possibly free with prophet)->math->construction(for catapults)... for a stable economy while warring.

Techs: BW, pottery, writing (due in 4 turns).
Paris work order: warrior, warrior, settler, warrior, worker (due in 2 turns)
Orleans: warrior (due in 5)

We spotted some barbarian archers wrecking havoc on nearby wilderness, so decided to build up defence before settler. Had to swap from worker to warrior when an archer approached our borders and only had 1 warrior defending the capitol. Barbs never attacked though, yet. Great wall could be done in 14 turns, we should propably do it now. Orleans was settled near the golds and works wheat atm. One floodplain near Paris is farmed coz worker didn't have anything to do while waiting for pottery.

Played 30 turns.

Normally I would complain about settling 1 tile from the shore but I think that site of the second city deserves some merit. Let's have the place cottaged up and the gold mined, we'll be ready for some hardcore teching and expansion.

Our first Great Prophet will be coming out someday, lets find out what to do with 'em. I still think Code of Laws for free isn't so bad, we'll just have to trade through Priesthood (and maybe Monotheism) to get it. If not we'll just have to get 'em settled in the city for +5 wealth.

We "could" still gamble for pyramids. After all we have stone.
