Know your foe - do you pick your opponents?

Once I chose my opponents every game, but I've stopped that. I really don't care. If I get idiots (read: very hostile AIs) I'm usually so far ahead in the tech race that I out-tech them and go for Alpha Centauri. Even those non-militaristic AIs seem to get slow tech, so it actually doesn't matter.

I choose. Mostly on random maps to have the four different building types to have some visual variety, and on the world map to give fair chances (usually I play America, and this means forcing myself to choose the Sioux or Aztlan as a rival to give a fair challange to me). I rarely do it randomly.

I tend to choose them when playing the world map. As I like to have control of Europe, I like to set up some rivals in the Americas (usually the Aztecs), and in the far east (China / Mongolia etc).
When playing I tend to use the Russians or Romans.

If i'm on aworld map which i usually am i pick my oponents so that i know where they are so i can destoy them more easily. Also you can put two together, eg US +aztecs so that neither gets too powerful. I am usuall English or Indians cause they have really fertile starting land so you get huge cities!!!

I have been picking lately, mostly to balance warlike and tech-savvy, but I think I might stop. It increases the randomness of the game and forces me to adapt more when, for example, I wind up with Zulus, Carthaginians, AND Mongols.

That said, though, I like to avoid playing against the Aztecs too. Maybe I ought to just replace that Civ with a different one . . . hmmmm . . .

Rarely pick my own. I like the surprise of finding out who else is on the world (I always play 7 civs). MGE AI gives me Mongols about 90% of the time and plants them next to me about 1/2 the time.

i think that have difernce at the civs.... if u look the rules.txt, u will se some numbers for edit his personality, like civilized and military, agrecive and that things....

i never choose becoz i alway forget that options and i dont see any reazon for....

and i like the aztec's names!

I don't usually pick... I don't mind who kicks my arse!

I like being civs that have a lot of city names...

Sometimes I pick....but not usually.If I pick,then never will those A-bomb wielding french.do they ever not use them??????

*edit*do they ever stop using them???????
and yes I know about the laser,but for some damn reason they keep it up even if all cities are covered.
