so im upto turn 45 and have 5 cities left to retake, feeling confident its possible, but just wondering if any1 else has done it and how they found it. using the chinese civilization.

If you're China then you will surely win. What's more difficult is to lose the Korea scenario -- it's easier to win the "Tae-kwon-DOH" (i.e., lose the Korea scenario as Korea) achievement on diety than on lesser difficulty levels.

There is a fairly detailed thread on the Korea scenario in the Strategy Sub-forum. It isn't buried too far down -- probably on p.3 or 4 by now. Lots of good advice on that thread.

How I did it was win the first war with Manchuria keep your Northern city above Korea. Make sure to send units into Northern Korea to help against Japan. Spam units in Beijing. What I did was built up a fleet of caravels and spammed units in my southern cities to invade Korea by sea. There were a few times the japs tried to come across with some armies to invade southern China, but I made them into mincemeat with caravels, because the AI's navy do not create escort ships to protect embarked units like it should. Any of their units who did land I killed by mustering enough strength to destroy them on land cho-ko-nus, muskets, and a knight or two.

There is a second war with Manchuria, it is a slugfest just keep them occupied as much as you can. Their army is huge so it is tough. Make sure you keep that northern chinese city if you let it fall they will pour into Korea. Then just keep sending units from the north if possible across the sea, and from the south across the sea. Take back Seoul first and go from there. I was able to only take back three of the five cities it is tough. Just keep slugging it out look for ways to outsmart the AI. Make it til the end of the turns and you'll win. :)

If you're China, then you should win, it's not too difficult.

Spend some time building up your cities initially, then build your military like crazy and go through the Korean cities regaining them, while disrupting the Japanese lines of supply with multiple caravels. Manchuria can be held by a few well placed units, especially Chu-ku-nu and cannon, as the Manchurians have no answer to them.

What's far more difficult in this scenario is winning as Manchuria on any reasonable level, and especially taking Beijing, which is very well defended by natural geography. Manchuria is out-teched on every level, and even spamming lots of units won't do against Beijing unless you get the tactics just right.

To take Beijing as Manchu is far more easy than as Japan. You´ll get there earlier and you have the banner cavalry which is despite the great wall able to shoot without getting damaged. Then you take some Musketmen and Longbowmen in the front line. Some of them will get killed but one melee unit is enough to set the final hit.
What do you do as Japan? Every unit cannot move more than two tiles, and when you´re near Beijing, probably turn 70, there will be lots of cannons and Chu-Ko-Nus. One step and already dead. Nothing´s gonna survive and even when it won´t be enough to take the city. Winning as Japan is much more difficult in my opinion, especially the never-ending turtle ship shipment gets annoying.

a few tips i found useful when doing it as china anyway...

when pushing through korea with your units. pillage the roads so you can keep the enemy units one tile away from you with the use of rivers as the bulk of your force will be made of chu-ko-nu and cannons.

the use of caravels to stop reinfrocements landing is key, i used about 7-10 all with the naval upgrades achieved through barracks and military building.

when defending against the manchu you can either use a solid army or use cannons and chu-ko-nu strategically placed, if you take the latter option make sure you kill units which can take cities above the ranged units as the ranged units cant take your city.

also dont make the mistake of embarking a load of units across the sea thinking that the japs wouldnt have a load of caravels there as there are about 7-10 scattered around the middle.

think thats about it for tactics, the rest just play smart and its very do-able... few screenshots of the game...

Winning Deity with the Manchus is very tough, took me quite a while to do it.
