It has long bothered me how little recognition the korean war has gotten. Can anyone suggest a good book or website that i can learn more about the war? I hope this is on topic with off topic, because my last thread got closed because it was off topic(trolling?) :mischief:

If you are interested in the politics that lead to the formation of the two Koreas in 1945, the failure of the 1948 elections, and the seperate paths of both countries after 1953, I can recommend the book "The Two Koreas" by Don Oberdorfer. But be warned - it's almost 500 pages in paperback!

For a look at the military campaign of 1950-53, there are numerous available in the Military history section on any Borders shop.

@ general - There are several shows running occaisionally on the Discovery
Channel, such as "Korean War, Our Time in Hell" and some others ;) . You
might also want to ask some questions in the History forum, those guys in
there know MUCH !!! They are a literal treasure chest of info. :scan:

Conincidentally, I just read much of a book on the Korean War today in the public library. Title was 'The Dragon Strikes'; it was written by one of the survivors fr the Chosoir (sp?) battle/area. Quite balanced and it represented the Chinese side well.

Hackworth is the guy that some say was the inspiation for Apocolypse Now.
  :scan: . He was highly regarded in Vietnam before
having a "falling out".

yeah, ive seen him on TV a couple of times and he looks like a burned out hippie, but he seems relatively intelligent.

His stories about Vietnan in the book are pretty interesting, he basically did have his own little kingdom in Vietnam where he commanded a unit.

Guys, Apocalypse Now wasn't inspired by any person or Vietnam war event. The story is based on the fictional book, Heart of Darkness which takes place in 1800s Africa.

At least thats what Francis Ford Coppolla swore in an interview in a documentry about the Book and his movie.

But you still got your die hard fans out there who will sware to anyone who would listen to them that the movie is based on actual events.
