I'm new at this but here goes.

I love it! This is my first experience playing on an archipelago map. It has certainly changed my strategy.

The lag has not bothered me. Max time of about 10 sec. But, my computer is fairly new P4 2.53 GHz 256MB RAM.

I voted for on the fence based on the ridiculous length of turns but now that I've explored around a bit I really enjoy it.

:goodjob:

Life is short. Rather than loose a month (March), post an alternate to gotm17. Cut the number of civs down to 7 or do some other tweak(s) to get the lag down to a reasonable 30-60 second maximum. or less.

AMD 450MHz Civ3 1.29f lag: 5+ minutes lag. After 3 turns I won - the computer forfit due to lack of response.

I love it all....even the lag! It's been a blessing in disguise, allowing me to get lots of other things done while I play. This is by far the most exciting game I've played in a loooong time.

Undecided.

I love the lag too! I timed it at 15 seconds in the first few moves.
I am playing the PTW version on a 1.3GHz duron with 384MB RAM.
The extra few seconds just makes you think more.

Someone has said people should buy a faster processor. I think $30 on a bit more RAM would be a better bet.

I'm not far into the game and have only seen one of the special features without "interacting with it". I will reserve judgement I think.

This is the second game in a row where an overcomplicated setup procedure has been written for something that is in real life easy to do. If everyone makes a "civfanatics" folder in the root of their Civ install then every GOTM bundle including the save game can be downloaded into that folder and decompressed into the correct relative locations in about 2 mouse clicks.

Why the rigmorol? And is that how you spell rigmorol?

I loved it like I did with GOTM16.
<snip>
I didn't experience too much lag. 10 - 15 seconds like mad-bax.
I'm playing with a 1,2GHz Athlon and 768MB RAM the 1.29f version.

I think if you have a 300mhz and 64 MB ram you will probably need both...

To clear up some confusion - PtW is normally not this slow. It's just like vanilla Civ in my experience. Haven't tried the gotm in 1.29 though, so can't say if the difference big there.

I have a Celeron 633 with 148 RAM. GOTM 17 lag is about 1 minute now just before the AD’s, being 3 mins at start. It’s pretty painful but I learned to do other things between the turns (the dishes, eating aso). I believe that the lag is mostly due to the special features that cracker added (more precisely their number). That is why the lag decreases with time.

By the way Poggen, you posted semi-spoiler info. Please take care.

Love it ! Very interesting game, even tho difficulty level only regent, but still very entertaining.

Patching to 1.21 f helps the speed issues a bit, even tho i have to admit that the beginning delays were a bit long - but hey, that leaves us nice amount of time to plan our next move, and the delay between turns gets a lot smaller when you get out of the first age period (strange - some thing seems to use lots of cpu in the anicent age - what can that be ?)

I have a 1.8 ghz, and still had a lot a lag (not more than a minute). I was more annoyed at the time it took for the set up process. (But, then again, I'm not a computer whiz.) However, I think the volcanos and other additions make it worth while. FWIW

I think the setup should have been worded:
  1. Copy units folders in "Graphics" to the CivIII...Art/Units/ folder
  2. Rename PediaIcons in PTW.../Text/ to PediaIcons_original
  3. Copy the PediaIcons from "Text" to PTW.../Text folder
Then open a thread for the few people that don't know how to copy folders from one place to another EDIT: and have a link to it from the instructions.

Written like this, it's hard to say that this is a long or tedious setup procedure.

Or have everything including the save game in one self extracting archive with the instruction "download this file into your civilization III folder and double click to install."

I want to change my vote.

I've been trying to play it with vanilla Civ3 1.29f on a 933Mhz PIII 512Mb RAM etc etc, must say loving being Carthage and decided before beginning the game to be a peaceful trader and go for either UN or Space Race and maybe if the oppurtunity presents itself bash up Rome if they were in the game.

Only real downside is the wait between turns, over a minute which isn't so bad if your keeping a timeline at the start for QSC but trying to play it in the modern age is to taxing. I normally play my games straight through in one or two four hour sittings but this game is taking literally ages and I think I will have to give up on it.

What is causing the delay? I've played huge map games with all civs and even in the modern age the turns take no more then 30 secs.

LOVE - Carthage Civ and the map and extra goodies
HATE - Huge Turn Lag

I like the game so far. I'm still in the Medieval age and it still takes a while between turns. But I don't care. The 'adventure' feel (because of the new units/enhancements) far outweighs the small delay that occurs between turns. I like the way the scenario has been planned and the choices you have to make in the beginning. Please make more like this one. :D

I'm not quite finished- in the home stretch to win, but need to spend some time tidying things up. However, I loved this map, even if one of its qualities has probably set me much farther down the score chart than my QSC will indicate. (Specific quality self-deleted for spoiler purposes.)

Also, please 're-hire' your art/animation team for the extras, as they were suitably impressive and menacing when first encountered, especially the one on land. :goodjob:
