Kudo's System between users.

I love the idea as I said before, but his is also a way to flame people without being warned. A sort of subliminal message.

But Heretic Cata has a good idea. If the kudos system can be iplemented at all please do so.

With this we would be more self policing (less mod work) as people would not want to lose their kudos, and would spend more time constructing useful posts in an aim to achieve more.

I don't think this is true at all. Just as some people value having a high PC, others value a low PC, and still others don't care about their PC at all you would also have some people who would value kudos, some who would value not having kudos and some who wouldn't care.

And I'm with the guy who didn't know that there were cliques here. But I pretty much only hang out in Sports Talk, so that may explain my ignorance . . .

Completely agree.

In addition - should this come to pass - each user should be able to choose whether they wish to disable their own kudos score.

And negative kudos shouldn't be allowed.

Bad idea. We don't need further encouragement for the "look at me" posters that we already have, nor for those that enjoy demeaning others.

well if you made it optional or if you couldn't go below zero that wouldnt demean anyone

Only users with 500+ posts are allowed to give points... or something like that.
I'd go with 40 times that...

Who might those posters be?

I think that what Ainwood means is that our more 'egotistical' posters and trolls will use a kudos system their own advantage?
What's wrong with that?

Sounds too much like reputation points. This would cause too much problems with elitism so no, I dont believe this should be allowed.

Yeah, this wouldn't be a good idea because of the fact of some users beginning to feel inferior to others. I'm sure Perfection would have tons of points, well, just because he's Perfection. I, on the other hand, probably wouldn't get many, because I've only been here for five months. Even if no one could go negative, after a while, having only 10 or 15 "kudos" compared to others with hundreds would still make people feel inferior.

**Climbs on soapbox**
Elitism is everywhere, including CFC. How one establishes oneself as elite at CFC varies from forum to forum though. CFC is no different than RL; most of the people who want to eliminate "elitism" are those who are unable/unwilling to fullfill the requirements, those who can't figure out what those requirements are, or who want to change the requirements so they can be elites.

Take GOTM for example, I would like to be one of those elite GOTM players whose civ advice or comments are always respected and noted. Well, there is a problem. I am not a good enough player for anyone to pay any attention to me in GOTM and I am unwilling to make a real effort to learn to be a great player. Clearly, this is not fair. Why should those good players get all the glory? They get medals and titles and recognition all the time. And just because they spend way too much time playing a game. If we are going to stamp out elitism, by god, GOTM is the first place to do so! :mischief:

Every group/community recognizes excellence in some fashion. Sometimes it is with clearly defined guidelines (like GOTM) in other places it is an undefined process of granting respect for contribution in an informal, but real way. That is how it works in OT.
**Steps off soapbox**

Yes. But is that a good?
Good or not, it is the way the world works. ;)

I don't really see the point.

If you hang around long enough, you'll know whose posts to look forward to and whose posts to ignore. Kudos system or no kudos system - which may or may not be biased.

Well, isn't that the whole point of the Kudos system, to show who everyone likes?

The forum does have a reputation system built in. From what I read on the official vB forum, forums that have a positive experience using the system often disallow giving negative reputation points.

Not LOTS of work coding then ;)
