LAN party no more?

As Empire is now on Steam for multiplayer, is it now no longer possible to LAN party with a single disc?

I know I could LAN party RTW and M2:TW, but on the other hand I don't know of a single paid Steam game I can LAN party.

I bought the actual disc version (as opposed to Steam DL version) but it still needed Steam to install (and as first Steam's servers, then my internet were down, I was delayed by a whole day because of this).

Everyone will need their own version but you can still LAN.

This is one of my biggest gripe with the way games are going now. You can't play computer games with other people in your house unless everyone buys the game. That's just sick. Even back in the days, it wasn't really planned like that, you had to boot the game and swap discs and such... But they were hoping you'd buy a copy for every single person. That's just... No. Even consoles these days like not make sure split screen isn't available. Thanks for making people buy more copies of your games and making us all sit in different houses, alone and pathetic.
