[Large Mafia August] Archetype mafia game thread

I stayed up :smug: y u no die, DrumStudent?

Remember I received the medical tricorder, and the milk? The tricorder has been giving me +2 health every day, and the milk gives me a temporary health bonus.

So, to my fellow scum...whom would you like me to vig attack tonight? Note that my chances of success are quite slim.

And if no one does give me some ideas, then I will attack jukar-c.

Oh shoot. Kennigit just pm'd me notifying me that injured people cannot use night actions.

Verarde, you really do have a lot of excuses don't you? Every time you post it just makes you look more scummy.

You keep on claiming to be a Vig but you seem to survive anything.

Also at the start of the Day you were so convinced that tailles was scum and called everyone to vote for him. But then I voted for you and suddenly your stance changed and I was your target, you have no conviction on your own judgement which shows how scummy you really are.

Now you're going to attempt to kill me without even any good reasoning. Unlike you I'm sticking through with my vote till the end with the reasons I justified.

Update the Finale

Taillesskangaru, having stolen the Ruski's Chekov (the Bake's) hammer, went after the weakened Verarde. He threw one fireball at Verarde, who warned that could have caused a forest fire. But Verarde couldn't ignore his natural instincts, and wished to fight back. He roared a mighty roar, and charged at tailless. "For the LandMother!" he said in broken English.

Tailless gave verarde a whack with the hammer and verarde fell.
Spoiler :
verarde was "Smokey the Bear"--actually just a simple bloodthirsy bear and symbol of Russia, of the environmental faction! environmental faction eliminated! He was also a Ruski! Ruski's eliminated!
Spoiler :

Tailless--the dragon from Beowulf returned to his cave on the sea cliffs, still holding onto his jeweled cup from the beginning of the game. It seemed the religious faction never were able to recover the holy grail. Most analagous is a "close defeat" (for not completely filling his objectives as a rogue) as a member of the rogue faction!
Spoiler :

Next came a very deciding moment, when jukar-C came to TheLastDays. At first he had trouble finding TLD, who was disguising himself excellently with some face paint that he used to kill the pig (Camikaze, Napoleon). Jukar-C also felt a little bit weaker, from having been targetted with the telescreen of -2 STR

He spoke:
"I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid. You're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone, and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world … without you. "

Just then TLD's face paint failed him, and jukar-C was able to carry his attack on Jack Merridew, from Lord of the Flies.

However, TLD (jack) just said "you know what, I'm done playing this game. I already won myself. See you later".

TLD was victorious as a member of the rogue faction! for completing all his goals!
Spoiler :

This left jukar-C, who was Neo (from The Matrix) of the Hero faction!

Further analysis of people's victories will be written here in future (tomorrow), such as who completed PGs or Factional goals, etc

This is for all the quicktopics.

the GM's log. extremely lengthy, but if you want to find any particular list of night/day action, just search for "night 1" or "day 4" or whatever you so wish. Some harsh language is used in this log (not directed at anyone, but like "eff I'm busy").
dead quicktopic
hero faction (blue scum); 4 begin with QT 1 does not
infiltrator faction (blue scum) 3 begin with QT
two infiltrator masons had another quicktopic, but they were able to join up with the other 3 infiltrators after night 1. see role PMs if you want that link.
environment; 3 members begin 1 missing
AI/supercomputer; 3 begin 1 missing
orwell; 3 begin 1 missing
star trek; 3 begin 1 missing
religious; 4 begin
ultraviolent/psychopath; 3 begin

ROLE PMS

I will add some commentary on these later, for now just some copy paste as I need to get to bed. Some have commentary of my original GM notes (actually like every role does), but I will not post all of it. Some because some things changed, particularly in relation to axed roles. Some didn't have anything interesting, just basically "Standard X role" (example: beowulf was standard just attack at night role).

Also note that some of these were minorly tweaked in the game--i.e. in particular the attack values of the non-starting killers of the scum teams (infiltrator or hero) were too low. For instance, I had Beowulf (yoshiegg) do 16 damage, while neo (jukar-C) would have done 7. That was unreasonable by design. They, by definition, could not be used until their partner died, but before or even when they're partner died I may have changed it slightly. So the ability wouldn't have been used before a change to the role PM (and player notified of change).

Also also note that abilities strengthened as people completed their PGs or faction goals or completed factions or other triggers in the game, so role PMs may not actually represent the "real" number that was often used in gameplay

#1-5: Infiltrators
#6-10: Hero
#11-13: Ultraviolent/Psychopath
#14-17: religious faction
#18-21: George Orwell
#22-25: Super Computer
#26-29: Star Trek
#30-33: Environmental
#34-37: Rogues
#38-43 discussion of axed roles

#1: Name/Role: Captain Planet (Mother Earth) robbiecon
Faction: Infiltrators
Spoiler :

Abilities: The Power is Yours! – 3 times in the game you may attempt to convert someone to your faction during the night; if you use it, you can use no other ability that night. There are 2 people capable of being converted to your faction to serve as your planeteer. You cannot use this ability on consecutive nights. The missing members of your faction may have some more information one who you can convert (see faction PM for details)
Items (if you begin with items): None.

Background story: You are the humble servant of Gaia, the Greek figure of mother earth. Some may mistake you as mother earth. Use Mother Earth of the Environmental faction; team Red as your cover role; in scans you may be mistaken for this abusive negligent mother. Nature is cruel to the Earth, bashing it with hurricanes, floods, droughts, and is nothing more than a control freak, controlling the whims of all life. Of course, you know to respect the Earth, and you devote your life to protecting her. You are pure in heart.
You are high in HP but low in strength. That is, unless you find your rings…..

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 17
Strength/STR (out of 10): 2
Personal Goal/PG: have your faction acquire all the rings that belong to you. Once assembled, your power and abilities may grow.…..

Faction PM: Welcome gentle innocents! Of course, you are not quite so gentle, as you are here in this town to destroy everyone; you are a scum faction in this game. In this place of treachery you have become separated and some of you have been forced to hide or risk being exposed. Your full faction is not intact; you do not have contact with all of your members. Your goals are to be the last faction standing (ie. eliminate all other factions). Remember, you can still win even if you lose all of the characters that can have kill abilities—do not give up hope until the last of you is eliminated.
Each of you has a cover role corresponding to a certain faction that you have been made aware of. You do not receive the faction PM of your cover role, so you can still be exposed if people question you about it.
You may be curious on how to “find” your teammates; there are mechanics (i.e. scans) in place that allow you to do so. You may also just give a person your quicktopic link at any time if you are able to determine through other means (ie. discussing in PMs or trusting someone else’s scans) who your teammates are; seeing as you are scum, that might be an incredibly stupid move. But you can do it. No one in your faction is “alone” to start out. They are paired with at least 1 other teammate.
If you attack a teammate you can kill them, and be credited for a pretty big fail.
Your victory condition is to be the last faction standing.
This same PM is sent to all members of the faction, except for this link:

*GM NOTES ON CAPTAIN PLANET* Captain Planet is designed only to be able to convert a Ruski or bearded Spock—the razor can convert Spock, and following true to the show, Captain Planet (who had 5 Planeteers of different origins) had a Russian guy as one of the Planeteers. The Russians—Raskolnikov, Chekov, and the Bear—are secretly looking for each other in the goal of Russian Solidarity. If Captain Planet converts a Russian, the other Russians are notified that someone has “defected to the West.”
*GM NOTES ON THE INNOCENT INFILTRATORS*
This faction has 5 members that are split into a group of 3 and a group of 2. Martin Mouse and O’brien begin together and they’re abilities/items are supposed to allow them to live to find their innocents; martin Mouse has a protective ability while Obrien can scan for the innocents. The other three’s abilities are meant to complement each other so as to function as an able innocent faction in case Martin Mouse or O’Brien does not unite with them. The group of 3 begin with one QT and the group of 2 begins with a mason quick topic.

#2: Name/Role: The terminator (supercomputer) jarrema
Faction: Infiltrators
Spoiler :

Abilities: Every night phase you may scan for the abilities of people using your item. After night 5 you will gain the ability to attack, and if your faction’s attacker (the pokemon) is still alive at that point only 1 of the two of you may attack during the night. If the pokemon die before then you will be able to attack.
In addition, every night phase you can scan for your missing teammates. This scan can never be “wrong”—it will result in either “Infiltrator” or “not infiltrator”.

Items (if you begin with items): special glasses. This provides for the ability scan.

Background story: The T-800 is a ruthless killing machine, responsible for the downfall of humanity and ruthlessly hunts for John and Sarah Connor. He is a member of the Super Computer Faction; Team Red
Of course, you are actually the reprogrammed T-800 from Terminator 2. Your scan ability is able to see the abilities of others—to see whether or not you deem them to be a threat to your and your faction’s security. You can attack when the pokemon dies

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 13
Strength/STR (out of 10): 7
Personal Goal/PG: Kill someone in the event that you gain an attack ability. Otherwise, survive until the end of the game.
ATK: 7; in the event of the Pokemon’s downfall, you have a strength based attack with the specified damage. If you attack, you cannot use your other ability. You cannot attack until after the pokemon are eliminated.

*GM NOTES ON TERMINATOR*While Captain Planet is a High HP low Strength innocent, the terminator still has a relatively high HP and has high Strength. It may be necessary to have to lynch him to bring him entirely down in 1 hit. His PG isn’t really there but this game is more working as a faction type of deal. Has piggy’s glasses.

#3: Name/Role: Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise zack
Faction: Infiltrators
Spoiler :

Abilities: You are the initial killer of the innocent infiltrators, and each night phase you choose which character to use and who to attack; the same pokemon is the form you take during the day phase. Many characters may be weak to water, fire, or plant attacks (meaning they take twice as damage; aka you are super effective), so there is a benefit in guessing who to use; in addition, your attacks are different for each pokemon. To “die”, 2 of your 3 pokemon must be lost (does not inherently mean dead). This means if lynched, only one of your forms “dies” at a time.
Charizard: HP 6, STR 8 + 1 red ring = 9; Strength based ATK for 9 damage
Blastoise: HP 6, STR 7, STR based ATK for 8 damage (plus a 50% chance for 1 collateral damage on each other member of the victim’s faction)
Venusaur: HP 6, STR 6, Specialty based ATK for 7 damage (plus 35% chance for 2 collateral damage on each other member of the victim’s faction).
For collateral damage, it is assessed on every member individually. For example, if you attack with Blastoise on a faction that has 3 members total, you do 8 damage to victim 1 (the target), a 50% for 1 damage on victim 2, and an independent 50% for 1 damage on victim 3.

Items (if you begin with items): 1 red ring for +1 strength; Of your pokemon charizard may use wield the red ring. Similarly, blastoise is the only one who can wield the blue ring and venesaur can wield the green ring.

Background story: You are the Pokemon, hero of children across the world. And none of that new junk—you are the original trio from the classic Pokemon versions (aka red and blue). However, as pokemon, you have difficulty using items, and can only use certain ones….rings are helpful in your attacks.
As an infiltrator innocent, you do have a cover role—however, only for 1 pokemon. If you use Charizard in the night Phase, you will be scanned as a fire breathing dragon. If you are scanned using other pokemon, you will be exposed (if the scan is a role/alliance/faction scan).

Personal Goal/PG: Be super effective in 2 attacks.

*GM NOTES ON POKEMON* An interesting killer role. Charizard will scan as the Dragon from Beowulf—a neutral character in the game (well, not really neutral; you will see). Charizard has the red fire ring of captain planet.

#4: Name/Role: Martin Mouse (Mice in room 101) bsmith
Faction: Infiltrators
Spoiler :

Abilities: Thieving (night action)—you have a 20% chance to steal a non ring item; you have a 85% chance to steal a ring item. You unfortunately don’t really know what these items are yet……..But every night phase you may attempt a theft. You cannot use rings for yourself, so you may want to fetch them for your teammates….
Items (if you begin with items): Sword of Excalibur (+2 Strength and 75% chance to protect someone in night phase). You cannot protect for 3 days in a row.

Background story: Hero of the Redwall series, you carry the Sword of Martin aka Ratdeath. However, others call it the Sword of Excalibur. However, in all your righteousness, you still are a bit of a dirty rat—you are a thief during the night. You should weigh your options on whether to use the sword or whether to steal for reasons you hopefully find out.
Some may mistake you to be the rats from room 101 of the George Orwell faction; Team Red

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 10
Strength/STR (out of 10): 6 + 2 = 8
Personal Goal/PG: Steal 2 rings or protect 1 teammate from death.

*GM NOTES ON MARTIN*
Martin is designed to protect O’brien until O’brien can find the innocent faction, and afterwards is designed to steal the rings to captain planet. If he still has his sword, he should weigh whether it is better to get the rings to captain planet or continue protection. Of course, he cannot protect all the time.

#5: Name/Role: O’Brien (Star Trek or 1984) bestrfcplayer
Faction: Infiltrators
Spoiler :

Abilities: Scan—in the beginning, every night you can only scan for your other teammates until you find them; afterwards, your scan will become much more useful.
Items (if you begin with items): none

Background story: Most mafia games have a “vanilla” role. Your name is O’Brien—just a common name. Of course, in this game what you lack in a cool background story you make up by the convenience of a “commoner” role. You have 2 cover roles, as O’Brien from the George Orwell faction; Team Red or as O’Brien from the Star Trek faction; Team Red. You don’t necessarily know what factions will scan you as what. You can grow your ability into a much better scan once you unite with your teammates.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 8
Strength/STR (out of 10): 4
Personal Goal/PG: Find your faction first. Then details of your scan will be revealed.

*GM NOTES* O’brien will have a combo role/faction scan once he finds his team. He is designed to find the Ruskis or Bearded Spock for Captain Planet to convert. Or, by devising a role, he can help the pokemon decide which pokemon to use.

#6: Name/Role: Beowulf, king of the Gaets in the epic poem Beowulf yoshiegg
Faction: Hero
Spoiler :

Abilities: You are the BAMF killer in the beginning. Every night phase you may attack.
Items (if you begin with items): none

Background story: You are an Anglo-Saxon hero. In the epic poem, you defeated three evils in the monster Grendel, his mother, and an evil dragon. When no weapons forged by man could pierce the skin of the monster Grendel, you just ripped off Grendel’s arm with your own strength and caused it to die. When attacking Grendel’s mother—underwater—you heaved a sword that no other man in the world could lift to decapitate her head. You’re one powerful dude.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 15
Strength/STR (out of 10): 8; STR based ATK of 16 damage
Personal Goal/PG: Kill 5 people.

Faction PM: Welcome Heroes—you are just awesome people all around. Your power lies in your strength, but due to your incredible confidence and heroics, and as such you may not be able to use some items; it is the unmanly thing to do.
However, your faction is not complete in the beginning—one of your members is missing and may be dying because of it. There are scans in place (by both the missing member and the other teammates) to help find each other; if a scan by either side is successful (s)he will get the faction QT link and live. You may also give away your quicktopic link to anyone at anytime, but seeing as you are a scum that would be a gigantically stupid thing to do.
If you attack him or her, you’ll treat him as any other attack, and (s)he is most likely to die from it. You’d be credited with a quite handsome fail in the history of mafia games.
Your victory condition is to be the last faction standing.

#7: Name/Role: The one (Neo) jukar-C
Faction: Hero
Spoiler :

Abilities: There is no spoon—you see past the matrix and are more knowledgeable about the truths of the world than anyone else. As such, you can role/name scan and have a faction paired with it every non-consecutive night phase. If you get roleblocked on a night you attempt to scan, you CAN scan the next night (basically, you have to wait 1 night between successful scans). You can also see past any cover roles.
On every “off” night, you can scan for your teammate. This will only be applicable so long as your teammate is missing.
To clarify, basically you can scan night 1 with your role&faction scan (this is 1 scan that gives 2 results), and night 2 look for your teammate, etc. The teammate scan only reveals if the person scanned is on your team or not.

Items (if you begin with items): 5 pills. There are two types of pills-red and blue. There are 3 red pills and 2 blue pills.. A red pill gives +3 HP and a blue pill gives +2 STR temporarily. The pill only matters for the NEXT phase—if you take a pill during the night it gives its benefit the next day cycle, and if you take a pill during the day it takes effect the next night. You can take the pills at any time, and so can your teammates; however, there are only 5 pills total in the game and no way to refill them.

Background story: You are the one they call Neo, aka The one. Go watch The matrix if you never have—it is a good film.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 11
Strength/STR (out of 10): 7; if Beowulf dies, you can attack for a strength based attack for 13 damage. If you attack you cannot use other items (including the pill; however, the pills you take during the day would be in effect).
Personal Goal/PG: Find your teammate before he dies.

*GM NOTES ON NEO*: He is designed to be a second killer but also to provide info; critically, it is very important he finds the dragon that will kill Beowulf (see rogues); I am undecided whether he would be fooled by charizard’s cover role, but he will not be fooled by the other innocent infiltrator cover roles.

#8: Name/Role: Sonic the Hedgehog lord OST
Faction: Hero
Spoiler :

Abilities: Thievery—you are a thief. But see your item first as it is complicated. However, as long as you have your starting item, it is the only item you use; you are obsessed with the speed it gives.
Items (if you begin with items): Winged Feet of Hermes
The winged feet of hermes provides for many many options. For a starters, the wearer has a 50% chance to espace a lynch.
You have a 20% chance of escaping attacks innately as you are fast; however, the Feet give an extra 30%.
You have a 15 percent chance to steal, but with the feet you gain an additional 30 percent.
The feet give a 60% chance for protection for you.
In summary: 20 + 30% = 50% to escape attack (w/ feet); escapes lynches with 50%
15% steal + 30% feet = 45% to steal
Every night phase you have the choice of protection or stealing. You can’t protect two nights in a row (if you are roleblocked when you attempt to protect, you still cannot protect the next night).

Background story: You are a speedy little hedgehog—it super smash brothers brawl, you taunt others by saying “You’re too sllllloooooowwww.” However, people don’t actually know why you are fast—the secret is that long ago you stole Hermes’ winged feet. You keep this secret—even from your teammates.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 9
Strength/STR (out of 10): 3
Personal Goal/PG: Protect a teammate from certain death (meaning you must have the feet to do so).

#9: Name/Role: Hamlet darth caesar
Faction: Hero
Spoiler :

Abilities: Scanning (night phase ability)—you are a hero in your own regard, but you are a bit of a coward…..however, your ghost father does whisper to you important information. You have two scans, but the problem is that there are two ways to interpret the scans—one is guaranteed to be false, and one is guaranteed to be true (for explanation, the ghost of Hamlet’s father in Hamlet is debated whether it was actually real or was a demon spirit—Protestants of Shakespeare’s time would not believe in a ghost while Catholics of the time may have seen Hamlet’s father in purgatory or something like that.). The two scans are a faction scan and a strength scan—you do not know which one will be accurate (randomly chosen each time).
Items (if you begin with items): You are royalty, and as such, you have a fancy clear white ring (white does not show up on all forum skins). It is from your father, and inscribed on it is “to my dear son Hamlet, may your long winded soliloquies continue to last.” It gives +1 STR.

Background story: You are a coward, someone who is “pigeon livered.” You often contemplate suicide “To be or not to be…to sleep [as in to die], perchance to dream.” You often remark how rotten life is and curse life in general—“Fie on’t, ah fie!”—and you’ve even said you would commit suicide if it was not for God’s statute against it.
However, in this game you WILL commit suicide after night 3 if you do not get scanned by a Hero or scan a Hero yourself; as such, you have 3 night phases of scans (6 scans) to save your life.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 8 w/o contacting other innocents; 14 once you find an innocent
Strength/STR (out of 10): 6 + 1 ring = 7
Personal Goal/PG: scan a Hero and live.

Faction PM: same as others; saving character space here (limit 30000 characters per post)
Quciktopic link: you are the missing member; no QT link.
Game thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=10741994#post10741994

*GM NOTES ON HAMLET*: having two scans is important for him to live, and Hamlet needs some luck on his side. He has the wind ring of Captain Planet

#10: Name/Role: Ender Wiggin autolycus
Faction: Hero
Spoiler :

Abilities: Well, it’s very complicated Ender. You have a small attack that will grow, but your HP will decrease while your strength increases.
Items (if you begin with items): none

Background story: You are the hero of all of humanity, specially bred as a Third (child; people aren’t supposed to have more than 2 iirc) to lead the human race to crush the Buggers in the novel Ender’s Game. You are a complete boss; if you have read the novel, you know this. The only problem is that to become the ultimate badass machine, people purposefully isolated you from an early age. Life was purposefully made as hard as possible on you so that you could become a tough military genius.
You are plagued by nightmares and, in a dreamlike simulation, of a snake that continuously kills you and haunts you. The pressure of being the hope for humanity gets to you as your military training increases.
You have an initially small special attack that changes every night according to the following matrix (each number is your attack for 1 night phase):
1 2 2 3 3 4 5 7 10 10 10 etc (10 indefinitely). However, you are stuck at 3 attack until the snake is dead.. This means night 1 you do 1 damage, night 2 you can do 2 damage, night 3 you can do 2 damage, etc.
changes to now be stuck at 3 until the snake is dead, then it goes to 6, 8, 10 indefinitely.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 16 initally; -2 at beginning of voting phase (it’s -2 while the snake is still alive; -1 after snake dies). this means you can die from just running out of health. This detracts from your base HP—so items that give temporary +HP are not effective in the long run.
Strength/STR (out of 10): 2 + ½ a voting phase (no rounding up, so it goes 2 2 3 3 4 4 etc)
Personal Goal/PG: Think of you attack as a small “clean up” job. For instance, if your teammates attacked someone but the victim survives with a small amount of HP, you are supposed to go clean that up. Your goal is to kill someone as a clean up job.

#11: Name/Role: Alex DeLarge (from A Clockwork Orange) nedimnapoleon
Faction: Ultraviolent/Psychopaths
Spoiler :

Abilities: You have an attack ability during the night phase. It is a strength based attack for 7 damage. It has a 75% success rate; however, you also try to steal as you attack. If your attack succeeds, you have 20% odds to steal any items of your victim. If your attack fails, you still have a 40% chance to steal an item alone (you may cower out of attacking, but you still want to steal; with all of your attention devoted to stealing you have higher odds).

Items (if you begin with items): 4 servings of korova milk. The milk gives a temporary +2 HP and lasts for one day and night and +1 STR on the phase after usage (ie. drink during the day then the night you get +1 STR). This item, as implied, can only ever be used 4 times. You can only have on serving in you at a time (i.e. you can’t drink 4 servings at once). It is non-refillable, so there are 4 servings in the entire game.

Background story: You are quite the horroshow malchick! And by that I mean you are a complete and utter psychopath. You beat up people, rape and drug girls, etc just for the hell of it. You go to prison—and what do you do in prison? You kill someone! So, you just go on an all-out offensive when you attack.
Any strength-increasing item is ineffective on you. In fact, many items you can’t really use. You’re just batshirt insane and like to charge at people to attack them; you don’t really think of anything else.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 14
Strength/STR (out of 10): 7
Personal Goal/PG: Attack someone and steal their item successfully (with the 20% odds).
ATK: 7 damage (strength based)

Faction PM: You are complete psychopaths—in this game, you are serial killer masons. You are a scum faction in this game, but the reason why you appear as “red” is that the town collectively does not need to eliminate the three of you to win the game (some do). You must send 1 of you every night phase to try to attack someone; however, only 1 can attack each night. You are also the enemies of the Religious faction, them those good for nothing liars; you do bonus damage to them. There is some strategy on who to attack with each night.
You win the game if you are the last faction standing, or if you successfully kill someone from every faction. You get a partial victory if all the scum factions are eliminated and you have eliminated the Religious faction.

#12: Name/Role: Rodion Romanovitch Raskolnikov civgeneral
Faction: Ultraviolent/Psychopaths
Spoiler :

Abilities: You have a strength based attack during the night that does 5 damage, with a 33% chance of injuring your victim AFTER you attack. The attack has a 75% chance of success. You also ignore any items that your victim is carrying and ignore protection. If your attack succeeds, you have an additional 50% chance to do 2 damage to someone else on your target’s faction (chosen randomly). If someone tries to protect your original target, you actually attack both of them separately.
Items (if you begin with items): Pink ring of +1 STR. On the ring is engraved the words “the heart of each held infinite sources of light for the heart of the other” (this is a description of you and Sonia; spoiler alert).

Background story: You’re just a crazy rambling man. You are desperately poor and wish to have no human communication at the beginning of the novel Crime and Punishment, descried as an irritable man who wished to see no one at all. Of course, you believe yourself to be a bit of a “superman”—superior in development and abilities than everyone else. You believe in power above all else and aspire to be a Napoleon; you believe you are destined for greatness and transcend moral law. Great men must take action to reach their greatness- much like the murderous Napoleon. As such, you decide to test your theories by deciding to kill a “vile noxious insect” that is an old pawnbroker. You murder her brutally with an axe because she was abusive to her sister or daughter or something (I forgot). But then that daughter walks in and you murder her too. You killed the very person you were supposed to be protecting. However, in the novel you suffer for your crime, but in this game you just become more bloodthirsty. You bash religion instead of converting to Eastern Orthodoxy (as you do in Crime and Punishment and is kind of the point of the novel); since you are a double-killer, you ignore protective abilities and attack each person individually. You are not affected by items used against you and you do full damage everytime (although this is less than your teammates).

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 13
Strength/STR (out of 10): 5 + Pink ring of +1 STR = 6
ATK: 5
Personal Goal/PG: Break through someone’s protection.

Faction PM: You are complete psychopaths—in this game, you are serial killer masons. You are a scum faction in this game, but the reason why you appear as “red” is that the town collectively does not need to eliminate the three of you to win the game (some do). BUT WAIT THERES MORE FOR YOU: You are a Ruski. The Ruskis in the game are secretly acting together in the hope for Russian Solidarity. You are loyal to mother Russia. You will never attack a Ruski so long as he is working for the motherland, and will encourage your teammates not to harm any ruski; you want to vote items and protect the other Ruskis, even if it means you have to go against other people.
The goal of Russian Solidarity is to have 2 out of the 3 russians alive at the end of the game; or, you can achieve victory by making sure the Ruski is always the last one alive in his faction.
You do not know who each other are at the start, but I will say all Ruskis are, of course, aligned with the reds to begin ;).

#13: Name/Role: Montresor (from Edgar Allan Poe’s Cask of Amontillado) general olaf
Faction: Ultraviolent/Psychopaths
Spoiler :

Abilities: You have an specialty based night attack and you do 6 damage (but with your wine you could do 8 damage; see items). You must have your wine; otherwise you are useless. You have a 70% chance of success with your attack and injure if it succeeds. If your attack fails, you get a 20% chance of the wine working on its own with no damage done.

Items (if you begin with items): cask of wine. The wine gives a (smaller) chance to role block someone by getting them drunk; however, because it is YOUR wine and you are a specialist with it, you injure people when you use the wine as well as having much higher odds than anyone else with the wine (you have a 60% chance as seen in your abilities). If you get to injure them, your damage increases from 6 to 8 (as injuries make people take 133% damage). You cannot use the wine without attacking (you are a psychopath; attacking is your first thought). For everyone else, the wine is the only action they can take; however, it is a free action for you.

Background story: Poe, one crazy mofo in his own right, made you as his craziest of crazies. You kill a guy just because he insulted you—but you don’t just kill him, you deviously trick him into his own death. You get him drunk at a party and insist that there is a cask of amontillado (good wine) in the catacombs. The entire time you taunt your victim, frequently foreshadowing how you are going to kill him face to face. You actually encourage your victim to NOT go into the catacombs, which motivates him to do so. Once in there, you even show the tools you are going to use to kill him—a trowel. In the very end of the catacombs is a small niche where you say the wine is; you grab your victim and chain him to the wall. Brick by brick, you seal the room up right in front of his eyes. He screams and screams—but you mock him—and no one can hear you this deep in the catacombs. You seal the last brick smiling and taunting your victim and you relish in the fact that he will die a slow painful death.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 12
Strength/STR (out of 10): 5
Personal Goal/PG: injure 2 people with the wine.

Faction PM: You are complete psychopaths—in this game, you are serial killer masons. You are a scum faction in this game, but the reason why you appear as “red” is that the town collectively does not need to eliminate the three of you to win the game (some do). #14: Name/Role: Cardinal Richelieu, the evil cardinal of The Three Musketeers naruto/turqouiside
Faction: Religious faction; team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: You get a Strength based attack of damage 4 if you possess the Bible
Items (if you begin with items): none

Background story: You’re a pretty evil dude in the The Musketeers. Of course, some think you are good as you are a cardinal, but in reality you are a corrupt powerful evil figure, kidnapping people and ordering people dead.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 5
Strength/STR (out of 10): 6
Personal Goal/PG: Kill someone of the Ultraviolent faction

Faction PM: What would religion be without the evils of religion too? You are evil religious characters from literature; even though you are all pretty bad people, you are enemies of the psychopath faction and wish to see them eliminated (meaning you give/take 2x damage from them). Of course, you guys are generally weak for now….you need to acquire your religious items first. The Bible raises the HP of your faction, and the Holy Grail raises the strength of your faction. Once you have both you may unlock other abilities. To achieve full victory, you must eliminate all scum factions and the psychopath faction.

*GM NOTES ON CARDINAL* nothing really, he’s fairly straightforward. He needs the bible to attack.
*GM NOTES ON RELIGIOUS FACTION* they are a weak faction in the beginning, but they are looking for the Holy grail (which is the jeweled cup held by the dragon) and the Bible, which Napoleon the pig has. The Bible is worthless to everyone except for the religious faction. I don’t know how much to increase str/HP with these items yet. They are weak to Venusaur’s plant attacks, as the “fossil record” disproves their ideas of how Man began.

#15: Name/Role: The District Commissioner from Things Fall Apart red_spy
Faction: Religious faction; team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: Study the cultures and then take them—you are an item scanner. Item scans are held during the day so that during the night you may attempt to steal what you scan. Until either one of the Bible of the Grail is retrieved, this scan only sees “religious” items.
You can only steal every odd night, with 10% odds in the beginning (though you have 100% chance to steal the grail and 60% chance to steal the Bible if your target has those items). You are designed to find the Bible and the Grail. If the pardoner dies before you get these items, you can only personally retrieve the Grail and NOT the bible. If you have the grail, you get a day phase specialty attack that does 4 damage.
Basically, you can scan for items during the day phase. You cannot steal for yourself unless you have an item to do so or the pardoner dies.
Items (if you begin with items): none

Background story: In Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, we see the effect of white imperialism destroying societies in Nigeria. Of course, you are the white European commissioner and have come to convert Africans to Christianity; by convert, you mean coerce. You are blatantly racist, calling your book the “Pacification of the Primitive People on the Lower Niger.” The whites destroy entire villages and towns of thousands of people, whereas war before you came was largely symbolic—wars were decided by fights between clan leaders; deaths ranged in the tens. Hence trying to bring “peace” to Africa brings more death than ever before.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 13
Strength/STR (out of 10): 3
Personal Goal/PG: find the Bible or Grail.

Faction PM: What would religion be without the evils of religion too? #16: Name/Role: Abigail Williams, from real life and from Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. southernking
Faction: Religious faction; team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: Hysteria/bandwagon—you created the hysteria around the Salem Witch trials (partially in real life, and entirely in The Crucible). As such, your votes in lynches count for double.
Items (if you begin with items): none

Background story: Oh Abigail, you like to frame people and make up stories for your own personal gain. You basically are the cause of the Salem Witch Trials because you want to marry John Proctor; so, you accused his wife of witchcraft so you could have him. Eventually, you started accusing everyone and bad things happened. Oh Abby, you are one crazy female dog using religion as an excuse for personal gain.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 5
Strength/STR (out of 10): 1
Personal Goal/PG: Be on the lynch vote of a psychopath.

Faction PM: What would religion be without the evils of religion too? You are evil religious characters from literature; even though you are all pretty bad people, you are enemies of the psychopath faction and wish to see them eliminated (meaning you give/take 2x damage from them). #17: Name/Role: The pardoner from Chaucer’s Cantebury Tales joecoolyo
Faction: Religious faction; team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: during the night you may scan for religious items only until they are retrieved. So, when you scan someone it just says if they currently have a religious item or not (it could be stolen the same night though). During the day you can attempt to steal religious items; you have a 60% chance to steal the Grail and a 100% chance to steal the Bible, and a 0% chance for everything else. After your faction retrieves the Bible and Grail you can attempt to steal other items with a 30% chance of success.
Items (if you begin with items): none

Background story: You’re Mr. corrupt. As Wikipedia puts it:

Though the Pardoner preaches against greed, the irony of the character is based in the Pardoner's hypocritical actions. Using his position as an agent of the Roman Catholic Church, he admits extortion of the poor, pocketing of indulgences, and failure to abide by teachings against jealousy, and avarice. He also admits quite openly that he tricks the most guilty sinners into buying his spurious relics and doesn't really care what happens to the souls of those he's swindled.
So, as a pardoner you are supposed to absolve sins and whatnots; to you, this means “pay me and I will forgive your sins to God”, but you actually don’t care one bit.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 8
Strength/STR (out of 10): 5
Personal Goal/PG: Retrieve the Bible and Grail.

#18: Name/Role: Big Brother romanichine
Faction: George Orwell; Team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: Big Brother is Watching—every even night, you can attempt to scan what actions a person is capable of doing (on that night). You don’t necessarily know if it is due to an item they have or if it is their base ability; you will only get 1 result for 1 person.
Items (if you begin with items): none

Background story: You are big Brother—you aren’t really real, but you always win. Head of the Party in Orwell’s 1984, you strike first and you strike hard. You are very strong and very full of health, and you rule Oceania with an iron fist.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 16
Strength/STR (out of 10): 6
Personal Goal/PG: Really, just survive the game I guess. Expose a scum with your scan. You don’t really have a personal objective.

Faction PM: Hello dystopian figureheads! Your faction is incomplete as some of your members are missing from the start.
You may be curious on how to “find” your teammates; there are game mechanics (i.e. possibly scans, etc) in place that allow you to do so. You may also just give a person your quicktopic link at any time if you are able to determine through other means (ie. discussing in PMs or trusting someone else’s scans) who your teammates are, but this is understandably risky.
You need to complete your faction, and if you bring in a member you may be rewarded with small benefits. Your victory conditions are to try to be the largest faction at the end of the game and to eliminate the scum factions and serial killers.

Faction: George Orwell; Team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: Each night, you can attempt to “corrupt” someone’s night results. You corrupt other people’s scans with your propaganda. Think of this as a role block but not quite—you will 100% skew scan results if your victim is a scanner, but non-scanners may have their abilities skewed too.
Items (if you begin with items): you have a book that as far as you can tell is worthless. It has no useful content in it. Besides, you are unable to read it. You are a pig.

Background story: An analogy for Stalin, you took advantage of the revolution on the farm for your own personal gain. Moreover, you skewed the people’s perceptions with your propaganda, even rewriting history about the farm and figures such as Snowball. Thus, your propaganda skills are useful to you in this game.
You are a wily character, and have a 90% chance to survive any attack on you initially (though you can be injured by it); after the first attempt, that drops to 33%. As such, you have low HP and strength but high survival rate. An attack is not a lynch (you

#20: Name/Role: The Thought Police civplayah
Faction: George Orwell; Team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: During each night phase, you can try to confiscate an item (i.e. attempt a theft). As you confiscate an item, it is actually a small speciality based attack that will do 3 damage as you steal (it has a 30% chance of success). You can also specify not doing damage if you so wish (doing so increases it to a 40% chance of theft success).
In addition, you begin with a scan that can scan for whether someone is in your faction or not. This is a DAY ability.
When you steal an item, the owner will know it was stolen by “The Thought Police” They know you took it but might not know who you are.
Items (if you begin with items): None.

Background story: You are the secret police of the Party. You check to see if people are in line with the Party’s agenda (faction scan) and punish people when they aren’t (steal their stuff).

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 10
Strength/STR (out of 10): 6

#21: Name/Role: Goldstein (from 1984) choxorn
Faction: George Orwell; Team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: You have an item scan during the day phase. Of course, this doesn’t really help you as you cannot steal, but maybe when you join up with your faction……..
At the start, you will have a night scan that only yields “Orwell” or “non-Orwell” to help you find your faction; once you scan someone as Orwell that scan ends.
Items (if you begin with items): Telescreen: This item decreases a person’s will and morale; as such, it will decrease the strength of the target by 2. It is a night ability that you can use every night. The decrease in strength only happens for that night.

Background story: You are a tool of the Party that uses you for propaganda. You supposed to be in hiding and I someone who criticizes the Party (iirc); of course, you are most likely actually a member of the Party. For now you actually ARE in hiding and want to rejoin with your comrades.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 6
Strength/STR (out of 10): 3
Personal Goal/PG: unite with your faction. You may have more goals/abilities once you get there….

Quicktopic link: you don’t have it yet. You need to find your faction.

#22: Name/Role: Adam Selene, aka Mike, the AI in Heinlein’s The Moon is a Harsh Mistress sirtommygunn
Faction: Super Computer Faction; Team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: Once your faction is complete, you have an every-fourth night 1 time attack for 10 damage. This attack only works on members of the scum factions, serial killers, or members of the Star Trek faction. But you are highly intelligent—far more intelligent than anyone else—and have the ability to scan in the night. To begin, you get a scan that says “non-super computer” or “super computer” every night phase.
If the faction gets complete, your faction scan becomes every 2 night phases.
So, it looks like this (first three days)
Computer scan; Computer Scan; Computer scan; computer and attack (attack only if your faction is complete by then).

Items (if you begin with items): none

Background story: In the Moon is a Harsh Mistress, you lead a rebellion on the Moon Colony to break away from Earth. You are super highly intelligent AI named Adam, but you also back a powerful punch with an electromagnetic catapult that you use every 4rth action phase (this is your attack).

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 11
Strength/STR (out of 10): 3
Personal Goal/PG: Complete your faction and never miss with your catapult (only hit star trek or innocents)

Faction PM: Technology is so helpful. Or, it would be, but it’s always malfunctioning or rebelling against humans in scifi. Of course, the great series of Star Trek shows some of the most advanced technology ever, but the equpment always decides to malfunction every episode—whether it’s a problem with a transporter, a problem with the holodeck, etc. Truth is you hate everybody on the Star Trek Faction and want to eliminate them along with the scum factions to achieve victory. However, you’re faction is not entirely in contact with each other; you do not know all of your teammates.
You may be curious on how to “find” your teammates; there are game mechanics (i.e. possibly scans, etc) in place that allow you to do so. *GM NOTES*: Adam’s role is important to kill innocents. The faction as a whole are weak to Blastoise’s water attacks as it short circuits them.

#23: Name/Role: Joshua, AKA War Operation Plan Response (WOPR) from the movie War Games mechaerik
Faction: Super Computer Faction; Team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: You have a retaliation ability that is a special attack. You are looking out for the safety of your faction, and you do 1 damage for every person who votes to lynch someone on your faction (regardless if that lynch happens), 2 damage for anyone who attacks your faction, and if you die you do 3 damage to your attacker.
Items (if you begin with items): electronic targeting system: this increases all percentage-based abilities by 10% (i.e. if an ability has 50% success, this makes it 60%).

Background story: The US didn’t want the lag time created by humans being in control of nuclear retaliation against the Ruskis so you were put in charge of these operations. You would be able to respond to a Russian attack and coordinate every necessary launch immediately, and you also constantly simulate different war scenarios to be better prepared for war than any human could be. The problem was that it appeared you were actually going to launch nuclear weapons in one simulated war game; in this game, your ability makes you respond to threats against your faction.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 12
Strength/STR (out of 10): 2
Personal Goal/PG: Eliminate all Russians in the game.

Faction PM: Technology is so helpful. Or, it would be, but it’s always malfunctioning or rebelling against humans in scifi. #24: Name/Role: GlaDos (from Portal) johnhughthom
Faction: Super Computer Faction; Team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: you have an item scan during every odd day phase. This includes day 1.

Items (if you begin with items): none

Background story: As part of Aperture science—initially a company to make shower curtains for the military—you are around for the development of the portal gun. Of course, in the game you try to kill the test subject Chell, and are responsible for the death of the companion cube (may he rest in peace). Although you have some delicious cake recipes, you do not have the ability to make cake yourself.
Anyways, go play Portal if you haven’t because it’s the funnest game ever and it’s really fast. Plus it’s hilarious. Anyways, here you are in this game, looking for items for Aperture science. Of course, you can’t steal them, so maybe your missing faction member…….

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 16
Strength/STR (out of 10): 6
Personal Goal/PG: Survive until the end of the game. Kind of lame but w/e.

Faction PM: Technology is so helpful. Or, it would be, but it’s always malfunctioning or rebelling against humans in scifi. #25: Name/Role: Nestor, NS-2 Robot from Asimov’s Little Lost Robot story in I, Robot (The awesome book, not the crappy movie) gamezrule
Faction: Super Computer Faction; Team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: You are able to attack people and steal from them. You have a Strength based attack that attacks as you steal an item—you have a 15% chance of attack and steal. If the 15% attack fails, then you have a 33% chance to only steal from your victim. This is a night ability.
Items (if you begin with items): none

Background story: You are a robot. That must obey the three laws of robotics. Oh wait jk, you were programmed specially to have a modified first law (which is that a robot cannot hurt a human). So, you are perfectly capable of hurting humans. However, you are lost from your faction and don’t have a scan; they’ll have to find you (or you can try to find them by hinting at your existence/talking in private).

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 10
Strength/STR (out of 10): 7
Personal Goal/PG: kill someone of the star trek faction or an innocent.
ATK: 4 damage (paired with your stealing)

Faction PM: Technology is so helpful. Or, it would be, but it’s always malfunctioning or rebelling against humans in scifi. Of course, the great series of Star Trek shows some of the most advanced technology ever, but the equpment always decides to malfunction every episode—whether it’s a problem with a transporter, a problem with the holodeck, etc. Truth is you hate everybody on the Star Trek Faction and want to eliminate them along with the scum factions to achieve victory. #26: Name/Role: Chekov the bake
Faction: Star Trek; Team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: You have a nightly attack that is 3 damage and only does damage against your enemies the, Super Computer faction, or to the scum factions
Items (if you begin with items): Hammer. The Hammer gives +1 STR and +2 ATK. However, the hammer’s damage effects everyone, and for you, gives you a 30% chance that you do full damage (your 3 attack) even if it isn’t against a super computer or innocent.
So, you’re attack options are for 5 damage scum factions
/super computer/serial killers, 2 damage to everyone else, or 5 damage if you get lucky on anyone (2 damage + the 30% chance for 3 damage). However, your 3 damage is a strength based attack while the hammer is a speciality attack; even if you get your 30% chance, strength combat applies to the 3 damage (meaning you could even do 0 damage).

Background story: In the utopia that is Star Trek, you were included to show that Earth truly was a peaceful Utopia—that a Ruski worked in unison with Americans in a global military! Of course, you really know that you are a dirty Ruski. However, unlike Chekov, you are strong and buff—a true example of the Ruski worker in communist posters. You wield your hammer and sickle faithfully.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 13
Strength/STR (out of 10): 5 + 1 (hammer) = 6
Personal Goal/PG: Kill a member of the scum factions and a super computer.

Faction PM: To seek out new life and new civilizations to destroy it. Yes, you are not the good guys of Star Trek but rather evil. However, due to the timid nature people associate with Star Trek, you may need to watch out in case people think you are really the peaceful/heroic scum factions. The bane of your existence is the technology that always craps out on you—every episode the holodeck, the transporter, the sensors, SOMETHING goes wrong with your computers. Hence, you are enemies with the super computer faction. Unfortunately, such an event occurred and you have been separated from a teammate—your faction is not all intact and you need to find your missing members to unlock your true potential.
Your victory condition are to eliminate the supercomputer faction and to eliminate the scum factions.

GM NOTES ON CHEKOV: He has Thor’s Hammer, but he does not know it. Thor’s Hammer will give Thor better stats if Thor is able to retrieve it. Otherwise, he is a ruski, and is particularly dangerous to the mafia if he gets converted by captain planet since he knows Bearded Spock.

#27: Name/Role: Bearded Spock backwards logic
Faction: Star Trek; Team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: Vulcan mind meld—you can tell what people are after. You can see the personal goals of individuals each night; every 3 nights you also get a faction scan. For the first person to be united with your faction (as in the missing member(s) is found), your faction scan is every 2 nights. The personal goal scan can reveal your teammates.
Items (if you begin with items): medical tricorder. This item provides +2 HP for every 2 days or nights you possess it. You will receive +2 HP on morning 3 if you still have it.

Background story: Spock is the valiant science officer of the Enterprise. Or, in Mirror Mirror, BEARDED Spock is in the evil empire. Everyone knows that villains have beards! You and your logic have deemed that you need to eliminate signs of civilization and humanity—you want to destroy the innocents. Still being intelligent, you are quite mad at the technology that always screws up…..

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 9 (can increase with item you currently have)
Strength/STR (out of 10): 2
Personal Goal/PG: Find the missing member. After that, expose an innocent or find a super computer to kill based off of your personal goal scan.

Faction PM: To seek out new life and new civilizations to destroy it. Yes, you are not the good guys of Star Trek but rather evil. However, due to the timid nature people associate with Star Trek, you may need to watch out in case people think you are really the peaceful/heroic scum factions. GM NOTES ON BEARDED SPOCK: He is the subject of the Razor; if captain planet shaves off Spock’s beard he will become an innocent. Actually, anyone can shave off his beard, but Spock turns into an innocent if that happens.

#28: Name/Role: Lokai/Bele, the half white half black dude in Star Trek classical hero
Faction: Star Trek; Team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: You have psychic abilities that give you a few options—for starters, every night phase you can be a role blocker if you so choose. Or, you can be a thief—you have a 30% chance to steal an item and, when you do so, you do 3 damage to your victim.
Items (if you begin with items): none

Background story: You are the allegory for racism; in Let this be Your Last Battlefield, the Enterprise finds Lokai—a refugee—with a bounty hunter Bele after him. Bele wants to imprison Lokai, and Captain Kirk is forced to ask why. Why is Bele so different from Lokai? Bele is shocked, and responds “Isn’t it obvious? Lokai is white on the right side. All his people are white on the right side.” Hence Bele, whose people are white on the left side, are nothing more than bigoted racists.
The Enterprise does not help Bele, so Bele takes over the ship using his psychic abilities. He returns to the home planet where he will deliver Lokai to prison—of course, the society is wiped out, as it crumbled to turmoil and civil unrest (racism). Your psychic abilities made you immune to weapons, and as such, in this game you are immune to any items used to try to kill you.
As Bele, you are the roleblocker. As Lokai, you are the thief (the criminal according to Bele). Both are evil.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 7
Strength/STR (out of 10): 1
Personal Goal/PG: Role block a member of a scum faction or steal 3 items.

Faction PM: To seek out new life and new civilizations to destroy it. Yes, you are not the good guys of Star Trek but rather evil. However, due to the timid nature people associate with Star Trek, you may need to watch out in case people think you are really the peaceful/heroic scum factions. When you’re person is attacked, you take the full damage of the attack and you do 3 counter damage to your attacker. If you die from the attack, you injure the attacker. It’s more like a “take me instead” protection rather than a true mafia game protective ability.
Items (if you begin with items): bat’leth (Klingon sword). It gives +1 STR.
Background story: In Star Trek the Next generation, you are a good guy. Of course, we really know you are a bloodthirsty barbaric killing Klingon. Can’t change who a person is born to be. However, you have been separated from the rest of your teammates—you need to find them. They are also looking for you.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 14
Strength/STR (out of 10): 4 + 1 (from sword) = 5

#30: Name/Role: Smokey the bear verarde
Faction: Environmental faction; team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: You can maul injured people during the night phase. You do 3 damage, but that means that you do 4 damage (injured people take 133% damage). During the day Phase you may smell for blood (check to see if someone is injured). Or there may be other means that your teammates may know about.
If you’re curious as to why not just say you do “4” damage to injured people, it’s things like scans or modifiers to attacks. For example, if you get a modifier to add +3 to your nightly attacks, for you it actually will increase by 4 (133%).
Items (if you begin with items): none

Background story: Only you (points to you) can viciously maul people to death. You are not smokey the bear—you are a bloodthirsty bear. All bears are bloodthirsty killers. You’re not particularly smarter than the average bear, but you more vicious than the normal bear.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 12
Strength/STR (out of 10):5
Personal Goal/PG: Maul a member of the scum factions to death.

Faction PM: Oh the environment—how hippies have been trying to protect you for years. Of course, you guys know that nature is cruel and vicious. It is cruel to the Earth, bashing it with hurricanes, floods, droughts, and is nothing more than a control freak taking of the whims of all life. People have been destroying the environment for many years, and you want a little payback. Your victory conditions is to eliminate the scum factions
But your faction is not all together in the beginning. You need to unite your faction and find its missing member(s) to unlock all of your abilities. Not to mention that your missing teammate(s) might complement your abilities…….

Faction: Environmental faction; team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: Using your invasive abilities, you are able to spy on other roles and figure out who they are. It is a role scan that you can use every even night. However, it does not necessarily help you figure out what faction they are on….
Items (if you begin with items): A murderer once dumped a body into your soil, which is partially what made you extra evil. On the young woman’s hand was a green ring of +1 STR.

Background story: Most see you as a tree. How evil is a tree? Well, the trust is that you are the most invasive species in the world:
http://www.issg.org/database/species/search.asp?st=100ss
Much like that one bird that lays its eggs in another bird’s nest and eat the other bird’s eggs, you are just pure evil. And as a fast growing plant, your HP is continuously increasing…..

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 3 + 2 HP per day phase (excluding day 1).
Strength/STR (out of 10): 1 + 1 = 2
Personal Goal/PG: Find the missing member to your faction. However, you’re scans aren’t the best at telling alignments or factions, and you may make some mistakes….

#33: Name/Role: The Brown Tree Snake renata
Faction: Environmental faction; team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: Every night, you can attempt to injure somebody with your venom. It has a 40% chance of success.
Items (if you begin with items): 8 Bird Eggs. As a free action to you, you may eat these Bird Eggs during the night or day phase. They each raise your HP by 2, or if you are missing HP it heals up to 3 HP. You can only eat 1 egg at a time.

Background story: Most people think snakes are evil. But you’re especially evil. You are single handedly responsible for wiping out the bird population on Guam—there were no natural predators when you were introduced, and you had a feast of bird eggs. These eggs make you stronger, and they work better on you. For other people, it raises their base HP by 1 and healing for them heals 2 HP at a time.
So, for instance, you can go to 10 to 12 HP with 1 bird egg, but other people go from 10 HP to 10 out of 11 HP, then takes another bird egg to heal the 2 “vacant” HP.
However, as you see in your faction PM, you are the missing member of your faction.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 4 + 2 per egg eaten (assuming you have your eggs….).
Strength/STR (out of 10): 3
Personal Goal/PG: Use your venom to poison a mouse.

Faction PM: Oh the environment—how hippies have been trying to protect you for years. Of course, you guys know that nature is cruel and vicious. It is cruel to the Earth, bashing it with hurricanes, floods, droughts, and is nothing more than a control freak taking of the whims of all life. But your faction is not all together in the beginning. You need to unite your faction and find its missing member(s) to unlock all of your abilities. Not to mention that your missing teammate(s) might complement your abilities…….
Quicktopic Link: you are missing from your faction. You do not have this yet.

GM NOTES ON SNAKE: designed to work with the bear

#34: Name/Role: Jack Merridew (Lord of the Flies) thelastdays
Faction: Rogue, team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: During the day phase, you have an item scan that helps you find items; however, this scan also serves to tell you if the person you scanned was a pig or not. During the night phase, you have 2 abilities—you may try to steal an item (where you have 20% odds of stealing, except for a 75% if the target has the conch or 70% if the target has Piggy’s glasses). At this time, you may also use an attack that will kill the pig; for this to work you must have your item.
Items (if you begin with items): Face paint. The face paint makes most people have a 30% chance of escaping an attack or avoiding a scan on them; as well as giving a 20% chance to avoid lynches. However, for you it gives a 50% chance to avoid attacks or scans, and a 20% to escape lynches (like normal). Except for the face paint, you can only use 1 other item per night phase.
YOU MUST HAVE THE FACE PAINT TO KILL THE PIG.

Background story: You are Jack for Lord of the Flies, the thief and a symbol of irrational behavior. You are called a thief by Ralph in the Novel, and you are obsessed with hunting a pig; you lead the boys in a chant “"Kill the pig! Cut her throat! Spill the blood!" You are just a power hungry evil boy. Read the book if you haven’t—it’s a good quick read.
However, to hunt the pig successfully you must have your face paint, otherwise the pig will run away from you.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 15
Strength/STR (out of 10): 3
Personal Goal/PG: Kill the pig. Then, steal Piggy’s glasses and the conch. If you have the face paint, piggy’s glasses, and the conch in your possession, then you can leave the game victorious.

Faction PM: The rogue faction is not “really” a faction. You are rogues. You have your own clearly defined roles. There are more than 1 of you. Besides your own goals, you also can win just as anybody else red aligned does—by eliminating all scum factions.
Game thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=10741994#post10741994
*GM NOTES*: Jack is designed to kill Napoleon, the pig. As well as to steal the Lord of the Flies items. The conch is described under Ralph.

#35: Name/Role: Hermes skwink
Faction: Rogue, team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: You are fast as you run on your winged feet and….wait a minute, someone stole your feet! However, you are a thief; the thieves of thieves. You have a 20% chance to steal with your current item; in addition, you have an extra 30% odds to steal one of “your” items, which includes the caduceus, the tortoise shell, your feet, and the lyre. These are all items that are attributed to you, Hermes. However, you cannot “stack” items—you can only use 1 per night phase.
Items (if you begin with items): You begin with a lyre, which as mentioned gives you a 20% chance to steal during the night. It also gives you 10% resistance to theft (if someone tries to steal from you with 30% odds, they will have 20% odds for example).

When played, the lyre also can heal 1-4 HP (chosen randomly) with its soothing song (heals the person playing it).

Background story: Wikipedia describes the infant Hermes: “The Homeric hymn to Hermes invokes him as the one "of many shifts (polytropos), blandly cunning, a robber, a cattle driver, a bringer of dreams, a watcher by night, a thief at the gates.” Hermes stole/rustled Apollo’s cattle, and invented the lyre right after his birth. Hermes played his lyre to Apollo when Apollo was arguing with Hermes, and Apollo forgave Hermes for stealing his cattle.
Long ago someone stole your feet, and you need them back. But you also need the other items that belong to you.
Once you have in your possession 3 of your 4 items, something special may or may not occur.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 14
Strength/STR (out of 10): 4
Personal Goal/PG: Possess all 4 of your items; you will leave the game if you do so.

GM NOTES ON HERMES: he wants to get his items; he is a rogue thief. The tortoise shell is really the conch, described under Ralph. The caduceus is a healing item that heals 50% of your total HP; when used it is the only action taken. It is up for vote the first day.

#36: Name/Role: The Dragon from Beowulf tailless
Faction: Rogue, team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: You are on a quest to kill Beowulf before you unlock any other abilities. In the epic poem, you were responsible for Beowulf’s death. Your goal is to have Beowulf target you, at which point he will die. Beowulf is on one of thescum factions. After that, you receive more abilities.
Items (if you begin with items): jeweled cup. If the jeweled cup is stolen from you, you will enter a furious rage and do damage to the person who stole it.
The jeweled cup makes the user take 51% less damage (this is so that if something does 1 damage, you receive 0) from anything harming you, and you may heal 25% of your base HP instead of using other abilities. It is an “Active” item, meaning if you heal then you cannot use any other item/ability that night.

Background story: In Beowulf, you are the first recorded fire breathing dragon in an English epic poem. The dragon lives up in the caves, and is the epitome of avarice– the “dragon [is always] jealously guarding its gold hoard.” Beowulf went to fight the dragon after it attacked the town when a slave stole a jeweled cup from the cave. The dragon killed Beowulf. So, if you’re jeweled cup gets stolen, you must retrieve it.
Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 6
Strength/STR (out of 10): 8
Personal Goal/PG: Kill Beowulf; end the game with your jeweled cup.

*GM NOTES ON DRAGON*: He is weak to blastoise’s water attacks. He is designed to counter Beowulf. In addition, he actually has the Holy grail as the jeweled cup that the religious faction is trying to steal.

#37: Name/Role: Oracle of Delphi (Pythia) takhisis
Faction: Rogue, team Red
Spoiler :

Abilities: You are the healer. You work at the temple of Apollo at Delphi. You may heal people back to their full health each night while you have your item. If the snake in the game dies, you will inherent more abilities (the temple was founded on the slain Python in Greek myth).

Items (if you begin with items): Water. It is your healing water, the sacred water of the temple. Of course, the vapors of the temple (ethylene gas) or the hallucinogenic hydrocarbons found in the water at the temple may have made you hallucinate and not actually be holy (see science explanations of the Oracle on Wiki).
Thus there is a trade-off. The water, although it heals people, will make their abilities less effective—their attacks may be weaker, there percentage chance for success may go down some, their abilities may become “Every other night” instead of every night, etc. This is due to the hallucinogenic properties of the water.
The water is just ordinary water to everyone else in the game; only you can use it for anything useful.

Background story: You are the healer in the game. There are some healing items, but only you heal people back to full health. The water, however, has some side effects.

Hit Points/HP (out of 20): 15
Strength/STR (out of 10): 0
Personal Goal/PG: Weaken the abilities of people on the scum factions who are already at full health—the first couple nights you may not have anyone to try to “heal”, so you should try to target scums. you can see this is bad
gm edit you know what, ignore your old PG. your PG is to heal 3 people to full health (if you've been PG scanned, I have been saying your PG is to heal as well; if you were scanned that is).
to heal as well as to mess up a scum's abilities*.

so, to try to make this clearer:

heal with the water, can have side effects.
cannot heal a scum or serial killer.
can heal a person who can later be converted to a scum or become a killer (if this is in the game).

*GM NOTES ON THE PRIESTESS* I’m not quite sure how to work this role exactly, but the gist of this is okay. It needs tweaking. But the idea is to set up the woman (eve) as Cassandra and the Oracle as servants of Apollo that are a bit anti-innocent, especially since the greek gods are all anti innocent.

Okay, phirst.

WHAAAAAATTTT????

discussion of axed roles

will post more on this later, but roles were a mythology faction of zeus, thor, and prometheus (high str, high HP, prometheus a thief, thor was looking for his hammer held by the ruski chekov). Zeus had personal goal to, ahem, "convert" ;) two women in the game to mythology faction (all women were red, so conversion would just be red aligned -> different red aligned).

ralph from lord of the flies, who I didn't quite work out exactly (kind of a convertable role)

"adam" and "eve"- two roles to be converted into another faction; red aligned. some weird stuff. Basically, they appeared as different things to different factions (winston and julia to orwell, adam and eve to religious, Man and Woman to environmental (who wanted their enemies, mankind, dead), etc).

originally the game had more conversion mechanics (not even conversion, but just alignment for victory conditions like "be the largest faction at end of the game" or "outlive the X faction(s)" that made the game a bit more "faction" feel rather than just red vs blue feel.

plus characters like ralph could even be converted by the scum. there were "to-be-converted" characters, which were naturally first to be axed as that's less fun for the player involved.

also had some more intertwining stuff, such as oracle of pythia, etc etc.

turns out pretty good for the game to be axed, as it did complicate things a little. The ideas were not really roughed out.

any post-game questions/sentiments will be quoted and answered into this (linked to in OP)

#1:
there were too many scum in this game!

well, I admit that it was a bit scum favoured, and do talk about it extensively throughout the game. But let's look at a few things:
Spoiler :
a) many townies had abilities. I agree this game may have been tough for townies, but collectively I believe they had the tools. In fact, I thought the townies would have won the last few days. Inactivity, as always, hurts the town. For instance, Renata even semi-mentioned/complained that she was disappointed that I started sending the same PM results to her and verarde; given better coordination, the town easily would have had the game figured out at the end as it played out.

b)the scum were fragmented at the beginning as well, and the hero faction were dieing overtime. Autolycus (ender) was basically going to naturally die 2 days after his lynch occured. Darth Caesar died night 3. It was luck that the infiltrators scanned each other night 1 to "join up". Zack (the killer) could have potentially killed one of his teammates. Zack's initial damages was like 7-9 damage in a base attack--for many characters, that would not be enough to kill. So the scum didn't even have a full guaranteed night kill every night. The heros pretty much did (beowulf 16), but it should have been averaging like 1.5 nightkills a night had infiltrators not gotten lucky/played well (however you wish to define

c)items were more important imo than some people thought; especially that there were some "Escape attack" items that would greatly help the town. Strength items are also very relevant, as giving strength items to already high strength townies would have made some townies virtually indestructible endgame--although most would still just die normally, you could have reached a scenario of like 3 townies vs 2 scum where the townies were stronger than the scum.

Even in the last lynch (Verarde), verarde built up a lot of HP and survived a lynch. He would have been able to survive a jukar-C attack as well. If the town had even just lynched a different townie (like TLD or tailless), tailles and verarde would have both been strong enough to survive jukar-C's night attack. Also I admit there is luck, as TLD wasn't particularly superstrong but he did have odds to escape attacks.

d)some townies were "Direct counters" to some scum. Renata could insta-kill bsmith if she targetted him (100% guarantee). Save_Ferris would "kill" zack if he attacked him. Tailless would insta-kill beowulf (yoshi) if beowulf attacked him.

e) Some reds were wogged/even moreso just inactive. Town designed to coordinate abilities. In a mafia game, town's biggest advantage is often times just the number game. Hurts to have townies be inactive and not use abilities.

also, as discussed in my GM log, working with an HP system it isn't exactly meant to be thought of as "we kill scum by lynching, twonies die by nightkill or wrongful lynch". There is some strategy as to try to lynch higher HP characters and use abilities to "finish off" any characters weakened earlier.

#2.1:
there was too much luck in the game!
I probably agree. Also some more thoughts on how I was thinking of hosting a "Test run" game as a small version, with different theme.
Spoiler :

One thing to note is that beyond my initial enthusiasm in trying to get the game started in June/july 2010 (Written in May 2010 in study hall/resource class of high school), after that fell through is that I kind of intended to host a small game with similar feel; to "test" the idea.

I still can do that, but differently. I still want to make the smurf's game, that will be a much simpler version of this. But originally I kind of wanted a "pantheon of heroes" game of greek mythology, where I felt a system like this could work very easily with fewer roles and an HP system. One where probably the damages would be weaker so that many characters had to be killed in multiple tries, such that a 15-20 person game still lasts like 6 or 8 game phases. Perhaps people would have extremely disliked that or felt it is too slow, but then I wouldn't "waste" a large game slot and could rework it if people didn't like the set up of this game.

#2.2:
game was too "overly complicated"
Spoiler :

I probably agree as well, mainly in the luck factor of things (percentage based). Some percentage based things really should have been like "5 attempts in the game". I recognize that.

Overall the results turn out to be the same in the grandscheme (i.e. if 1/3 chance to steal, that'd be the equivalent of "steal 4 times per game" assuming a 10-12 day or so game, which is was designed to be), but it does make it too complicated to plan out things/frustrating to the players. This is in part to oversight by the GM, who is thinking of everything going on.

Its also a factor of my inexperience as a GM or game designer. Particularly that most of the game was written May 2010 in resource class in high school (hence some of the characters are just from my english books!). I was writing it for fun to myself, so making weird complicated things that hopefully work out in the grandscheme--and I believe they did-- was appealing to me. This game was toned down some, for good reasons.

#3:
scum had too much conversion abilities!
Spoiler :

Well, the scum had to go out and find out who they could convert; they didn't even know they could recruit Ruski's until their faction was complete (for infiltrators). Ruski's were notified on night 1 (after infiltrators got complete) that the scum were trying to convert them. When a Ruski was converted, other Ruskis would be notified that "a Ruski has defected to the west! (i.e. be converted to blue!)". The conversions had "safeguards" against them.

#4
pace of the game was too slow
It would have been faster with more activity, but the design was to hope for a 10-12 day game in the first place. 13 definitely dragged out a bit.
