Ornskoldsvik is on (near) the coast (Gulf of Bothnia) between kramfors and Umea. You can accuse me of being pedantic

animepornstar but Mount Cook is in New Zealand not on the continent of Australia (Mount Kosciusko is the highest).

Next question, what are the names of the most southerly, northerly, easterly and westerly pieces of land on the Australian mainland (start with an easy one)?

I can make a couple of corrections:

Andu, Lake Eyre rarely has water in it although we do have many other lakes that have water all year round. Australia (I'm not suggesting you meant this) is a lot more than just arid outback - it has every climatic environment (except polar) there is.

Agreed. And I know that. But trying to decide which lake in Australia is the largest when the only Atlas that you have shows a lot "lake beds" in central Australia. But as a question, the original question "name everything" is simply not a question but a veritable test! And Animepornstar did rather well. By the way, what is the largest lake in Australia? And if we exclude the Caspian Sea, what is the largest natural lake in Europe? (I think that one of the reservoirs on the Volga ranks as the largest man-made lake in Europe). For Europe, off the top of my head, I would have to guess that Lake Garda is the largest in Europe excluding the Caspian Sea. But I seem to recall that Sweden has some sizeable glacial lakes.

P.S. I did give serious thought about applying to the University of Queensland for my postgraduate degree.

My atlas says that lakes Ladoga and Onega in Russia are the largest in Europe. The largest fresh water lake in Australia that is permanently full of water, is probably Lake Corangamite in western Victoria (I could be wrong).

ps. Andu, what are you studying?

You mean the states or the name of the places.?

Ok

so

East: Cape Byron
North: Tores islands
South: Tasmania...hum...Cape horn...nonono this is in argentina....well I don't know the exact name. Is Tasmania ok?
West: Brisbane must be the town that is at the western edge...

Is this concidered as a valuable answer? Can I ask a question?

Hang on Az, I had already given you Cape Byron, and I'm prepared to be magnanimous and give you "Torres Islands" even though in the north it's Cape York (remember I said "the Australian mainland" - that does not include ANY islands - including Tasmania). But Brisbane in the west!!! *shakes his head in disbelief*
I'll give you clues for the western most extremety try the northwest coast of western Australia (how helpful can a guy be?) and in the south try the south coast of Victoria. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif" border=0>
