Late game slow down?

Hi!

I use the 12/15 version of vox populi, no other mods. Im playing the game on an SSD as well. At around turn 366 in my current game (8 civs standard settings) the turn times significantly slowed down. Especially it took the game a long time to "process turn for Persia", the civ which had the highest score and military (4500 score). Has anyone else experianced this? Or is it perhaps my hardware?

Specs:

Motherboard: Asus z87-a
Power supply: corsair cx600 (600W)
Chassis: Cooler master HAF 912 plus
Processor: Intel i5-4670K 3.40Ghz
Memory: 8gb ddr3
GPU: GTX 970

It's late game, what do you expect? More units to be processed, more cities and so on.

No matter how strong is your PC. Only one threaded speed power counts. Only 4 Gb RAM can be used. SSD is nice for loading, but can't speed up process turns. I think best CPUs are i7 with the best single core speed.

Other than that, when late game AI are at fight, there's a lot to process. It could be some sort of bug, or a windows 7 compatibility issue (idle processes are ignored in windows 10 and cause no problems).

Yeah but the strange thing is that it happened from one turn to the next, and if I moved my mouse the game "froze" and I had to wait like 3 minutes for a turn. It just seemed strange to me

Could it be that Persia was mass-DOWed by other civs and needed to reshuffle units, etc.? The thing with your stuck mouse cursor is actually stranger than the turn time imo.

It only happens to me when someone founds World Congress. I have a similar rig and turn time buildup is more or less linear for me, no sudden slowdowns.

What happens next turn - back to normal? What about other civs? How long do they take? Is it a 1-time experience or is it happening in every game approximately simar turn?

1-2 years ago sometimes AIs were suddenly getting stuck for a while due to some bug in unit pathfinding, but I have not experienced it ever since. You can try deleting stuff of Persia (units, cities, etc.) with IGE and see if it has any impact.

I've seen the stuck cursor (not %100 stuck, it appears that way but is actually just badly badly lagged) and sudden slowdown recently myself. it's always on just one opponents turn, and actually it seemed to last over 3 minutes for me. I remember getting up and doing something, coming back some time later and it was still stuck. i was tempted to shut the program, but I didnt want to re-do my last turn and because the mouse would show response (albeit really lagged) i figured it was still working so i let it work longer, and sure enough it eventually resolved. It happened over a span of about 10 turns in one game and then went away just as suddenly as it arrived. I never said anything cause i was expecting a response like this

haha but now that you mentioned a pathfinding bug, i know next time it happens im going to get the relevant saves and make a github.

@Deadstarre, @besset, I have not had a chance to play with the most recent versions, but Gazebo and ilteroi have been working on AI, so I somewhat expect that there could be a new bug in the pathfinding routines.

If you send them the operational log, they might figure out what is happening. You can also use IGE and "get in shoes" of the civ in question and see if you find anything suspicious. You can try deleting some of their units or cities and see if they still get stuck. Also, maybe it is just me, but the indicator of the civ whose turn is being processed is always 1 civ behind (so if it gets stuck showing E. G. Persia, it could very well be the next civ)
