I've seen people discuss the 'personalities' of the various leaders in Civ... like Montezuma is more likely to hold a grudge or whatever... how do people arrive at these conclusions?
after you have played 2/3 games, you will notice some basic stuff :
- Alex attacking without any previous alarm, just because you're weak
- Isabella getting totally mad at you because you're jewish and she's buddhist
- Toku refusing to open borders or to trade any techs
- ...
It's not just in one game, it's always so!
Then you' ll ask yourself why it's always so.
Then you'll check the link cam_h provided in the previous post.
Then you'll know everything it takes to know what to expect from any given leader in any given game situation.
Unless you check random personalities and see Gandhi acting completely insane and attack you far superior army just for the heck of it. As it turns out he is possessed by the Monty demon.

I never do either. It just doesn't feel right. The way it is, I feel like I know these AI's somehow and for me at least it adds fun to the game.
I haven't thought through the implications of random personalities till now. You're right off course that if the personality changes and the traits don't, it could end up very weak. Another reason not to check it.
