As for loyalty to a company, it is indeed idiotic for the employees of that company. Ask the suckers who were loyal to Enron. It is doubly absurd for the consumers.

While you guys are in an attacking orgy, let me TRY to explain myself...

While I might seem "IDIOTIC" to some of you people, I think that perhaps there's SOMETHING of a misunderstanding, or perhaps I stated something wrong. This product has won me over. ANYTHING done to improve it will impress me further. I *LIKE* this game. My attitude about games is more like this:

1.) I either like it or I don't... If I DON'T...

I wipe myself with the warranty card, instruction manual, and flush the game down the toilet where it belongs...

2.) If I DO like it:

I do my darndest to give suggestions on improving it, and look forward to playing more of it in the future.

The GAME as is HAS MY SUPPORT. I apologize if LOYALTY was the wrong word to use, but the word "Idiotic" is pretty damned abrasive. It's a synonym to "********".

You guys are NOT peacemakers... Damn.

u are a paranoid android civ3lover, no one has attacked u (just a few little swipes  )

u ever think that some people may thing that loyalty to a COMPANY is stupid or idotic? rather than attacking u they might be attacking that mindset? u will come out of it soon enough when the gaming giant that u so love breaks your heart with a game that in your opinion just plain sux and reaks of lazyness on the part of the team with the vision and implementation

and then u go and tell us all that we should throw out your crap games, manual and all ... rather than us optimist ;) that hope/pray/think that firaxis will listen to us the grizzled and broken hearted and make a game that staps down with authority as to be the true ruler of the civilization that it once was rather than instead of the thump of a gaming god awesome game stamp we got a broken fart that followed through ;) ... well mebey not quite that bad, but definatly not the thump i expected

so take a chill pill civ3lover, no ones out to flame your arse so dont get so defencive

And I'm still left with this terrible pain in all the diodes down my left side. I've asked for them to be replaced but no one listens to me... :D

You make your point as UNDIPLOMATICALLY as ever. (Bear in mind I don't respond well to disrespect, and I never START being disrespectful. If I respond to something in a way that bothers you, then you have every right to say something. I am a bit surprised by the sheer blunt, abrasive, disrespect that comes with certain people, especially the youngsters posting here. It's incredible. Maybe I'm getting old, but... Anyone quoting scripture from the HHGTTG can't be a child, (can they?)

Civ3Lover, you pretty much asked for this reaction. Take a look around here. Read other posts. You'll see that the majority of posters here 1) like the game but have serious restrictions to some of its design elements; or 2) totally hate Civ3, Firaxis and anyone that calls himself "Civ3Lover".

Want a less abrasive place? Go to "Civ3 - Strategy" forum. But if you want to improve your defensive skills, hang on 'round here. I'm sure you'll have plenty of opportunities. :)

People are getting so carried away on making something real that... Well, my opinion is they're forgetting to have fun. I might just be getting old, but when I started playing video games it was on the Atari 2600 when I was 6 or 7 years old.

Just my two cents worth but I think CIV 3 is a good game.

We live in a capitalist society. Sid M needs to make money too!

Capitalist dog! In communism we could make games 10 times better than your puny Imperialist Civ 3. We make Sid Meir and Firaxis make good game or die, then we see how good they work!:goodjob: :grad: :whipped: :mwaha:

I agree. Some people seem to forget that this is a game and that we are supposed to have fun with it.

On the other hand, it is pretty understandable. People played Civ2 (or Civ1, or both) for years... they wanted Civ3 to be the sum of all their gaming dreams. Their dreams. It simply could not happen.

The results of the poll in this thread do not necessarily support your position.

You are right though, there is a very vocal minority who post often here that would be upset if Firaxis gave them a million dollars next week....they would complain that they didn't deliver it this week.

Civ III is a far better game than the fundamentally flawed CivII, and I appreciate Firaxis' continued support for the product. Considering I spent $44 for it on release day, and I still play 10 hrs or so a week, it has been a very good investment.

Which isn't to say it is perfect, but it was more than playable right out of the box.

Bill

I feel Firaxis is an exellent company, with many good games they are responsible for. Civ III is an exellent game, although the AI is probably one of the DUMBEST things ever, and I am excited about PTW. Sure, they should have included some things in PTW in the oringinal Civ III, but hey, it ain't gonna stop me from getting it!!!:goodjob:

There are also a few people here who might be a bit miffed if Firaxis promised them $10000 right then and there - and then waited two months before sending them a post-dated check for $0.02. Oh by the way horrible analogy.

I'm in the same boat as you, Matt. If PTW sux though, I'm sending Firaxis some divorce papers.

One of my most hard-thought ideas was queueing land for building priorities. You set the project, and give it a priority. Priority 1's have multiple workings working on it. Priority 2's have a single worker assigned to the task, and Priority 3's come after roads and pollution are taken care of. It's a great way to make radar towers, airfields, forts, etc...

If there's a "Keep producing" button on the cities, I'd sure like to know of it. Also, I think it'd be great to have freshly made units AUTOMATICALLY go to a certain destination if you tell 'em to. (Like basically setting a rally point for the production of the cities. Maybe even having them automatically fortify when they get there!) Civ would be the greatest game EVER if we didn't have to micromanage so much. I like the detail (which micromanagement is a natural by-product of.) But if you can have that initial micromanagement that can be set to autopilot later, wouldn't that be better in the long run? After all, this STILL *IS* a wargame.

You know what else would be good? Giving the governor a "to-do" list. Basically make a temple, barracks, <defensive unit, if one not there already>, granary, library, aquaduct, cathedral, university, colluseum, factory, solor or nuke plant...

Civ3Lover - are you really that fickle? ;)

You can do both of these things, with a minor limitation (though not the worker priority idea nor the rally point idea you also discuss). You can pre-selct up to 10 city building tasks, which could be similar to the list you made, or could be tank, tank, tank, tank, etc. When you zoom into a city and click on the item currently selected for build, you're presented with a list of possible builds. Select what want by highlighting it, but don't close the list; then hold SHIFT and select the next item; hold SHIFT and select the next; and so on. Up to 10 requests are stored in queue.

I would say RTFM, but as I recall this is not clearly presented in the manual. ;)

The "J" key was news to me. I'll rememeber about the queuing...

I still prefer the "make persistent" command, though, but the queue is a great improvement over past games.

It's not that I'm fickle, it's that I'm realistic. If some company pushes all of my emotional buttons, gets me so excited about something that I lose sleep, and THEN abandons me on the honeymoon, there's going to be "hell" to pay.

Empire Earth has done this. Now I'm looking forward to Rise of Nations... (Off topic, sorry, but... That's how I am there.)

Civ3 is the best thing going for global conquest/world-leader games, though.

Civ2 Gold is still great by these standards, but the newer features and combat do civ3 better. I LOVE the culture flipping.

Culture Flipping borders and cities is braindead non-historical nonsense.

The idea that a city that has for 5,000 years been part of one civ will suddenly decide to join another is a joke.

The idea the a border will flip over my garrisoned fortress and resource tile, and I will then have to leave, is ridiculous.

The idea the a just conquered city will flip back to the other civ - even though the other civ has only the capital left - due to its proximity to the capital, is laughable. That is expecially so when I have a huge army a few tiles away ready to crush them.

Razing cities of millions (esp. with just one unit) is a barbaric preposterous option. The stench of the corpses alone at least should equal some pollution tiles!

Disappearing garrisons is another absurdity, as is the cities not even losing a few population points when the garrison disappears.

Culture Flipping?? :vomit:

Kilroy, man, just calm down. Go relax and fight your incessant anger on a helpless AI. It's just a game; no need to go insane.
You can state your point without annihilating someone.

Have a Nice Day.

Hmm... Zouave, you present some interesting points. Let me introduce my discussion with this question. Why are you in the Civ3 forum anyways? No offense.:)

1. If the idea of culture flipping bugs you, think of West/East Berlin before the Berlin wall or Oriental immigrants to North America. Also think of Mexico/US border where illegal immigrants move from cities hundreds of years old to the US. However, you should at least get your forces back instead of losing them. And yes, the idea of a city reverting back to its horrifically crippled owner is somewhat laughable. Maybe in the next patch Firaxis will consider using cities left in the reverting equation.

2. When razing a city, not ALL citizens are going to burn into ashes. MOST of them are going to run away and be killed by your massive military.

I didn't really understand your final point.

However, you make a good argument. I'm SURE you're a great Civ3 player, but if you want to continually say what you paraphrase in every thread, go back to Civ2 forums. WE HERE LIKE Civ3, or else we wouldn't be posting. I personally play both Civ2 and Civ3, and enjoy both. Maybe you can too. Just don't rant in every thread.

Thanks.

MrBiggBoy

PS Don't take this post offensively. You're a funny guy!!:)

I disagree. Case in point:

The turks took over most of Greece. Greece today practices many turkish customs (among them smoking meerschaum pipes, etc...)

California is basically being taken over by Mexicans. Florida is FULL of cubans. Cities have been taken over this way, without firing a shot.

When the mongols took over Mandarin china, the Chinese there simply converted the mongols to their way of life... In the end, China won.

It happens. Not quite as simplistically, but it certainly does!

I resent that; as California isn't mexican, it's asian! 9/10 of the people in the phone book have last names like Lee, Chen, Wong, Watanabe, etc. Don't get me wrong, I like asians! Only from them did I learn that 'Hazuki' means august in Japanese!
Back to the point, city flipping is completely accurate. Cupertino, a small town near San Francisco, is practically part of Korea!

Hey MrBiggBoy do you know where Cupertino is?
