Sank you, Kolenal Klink. GSG9, thats it! The Brits and Aussies have SAS, French are the Legion (I think), Russia is spetnaz. Anybody know any more?

My unit was in combat with the Rangers and Delta (D-Boys), and have trained with Green Berets. Met some Navy SEALS too. I think the Marines have some too... Recon? Im not sure on that... Theres an elite helocopter unit called TF160 (nightstalkers) that operate with SF teams. The FBI has the HRT (hostage rescue team) and most major cities in the US have SWAT or URT.

Did I miss any?

In counterstrike the GIGN is the ELITE unit used there...

GIGN stands for the Group of Intervention of the National Gendarmerie...(in french the Gendarmerie would probably jump in b4 the National...not good at French, only lived there for 6 months -DOH!)

there are 2 special services:

GSG 9 and KSK
GSG 9 is the police special unit and the KSK is the military unit

afghanistan is far away and there is a war now, the KSK would do the job there

KSK = Kommando Spezial Kräfte

CBUs ( cluster bombs ) are the best way to kill light infantry on the ground, especially if they are massed. Since most of the Taliban & OBL forces are just that, there is no way that the Allies are going to give up this weapon, nor should they. B-52 ( B-2 ? ) strikes & nalpham are other good ways. Some bomblets do not explode & are dangerous afterward. I remember seeing the bomblets that JoeSpaniel describes on the ground in Vietnam many times. I do believe that the Air Force bomblets look a little different ( like a small yellow box ).

This crap about land mines just makes me tired. They are very effective at what they are intended for & in any REAL conflict, will be used ... irregardless of any well-meant but essentially stupid treaty. Glad the US refuses to ratify it. A much better approach would have been to update & give some teeth to the old conventions on Landmine Warfare. This just illustrates what happens when a bunch of pacifists & tired-out old leftys get involved in the Rules of Engagement/War . They just shoot themselves in the foot.

Anybody that thinks that overland war is easier on the locals & the terrain, infrastructure, etc .... than bombing, does not know crap about real war. The "best", least destructive wars are the ones that are over quickly.

The consensus of morality among nations is that which has been established into international laws and conventions regarding war. Theses have been hashed out, studied, revised, and rewritten for centuries. I agree that equal power should be put into the financial effort to strangle Osama. But every bomb brings the taliban closer to collapse and rule by a real cross section of Afghan people.

Be as idealistic as you want, but any other actions than the current ones, will destroy western credibility and who would be next then? USA? Europe? UK? Germany?

I love laughing at the canadian armed forces. There's about 60,000 thousand people in it. They still use some WW2 weapons (anti aircraft guns on our destroyers say "made with pride in saskacatchewan in 1945). The main tank is state of the art...circa 1960! (Germans on this page know what I'm talking about, Canada use a Leopard I) Our helicopters are about that old too. When we sent troops to Bosnia we did not have enough money to buy blue paint for their helmuts . Oh but beware of the Canadian Rangers, There an elite groupof Inuit soldiers who patrol the arctic on snowmobiles. There Unifiorm is jeans and a red sweat shirt (I sh#t you not) and they carry WW1 rifles . any one else here come from a country whose defence is in such disarray?

By the way we call our reserves "the militia"

And we have a unit called "Princess Patricia's Light Infantry" (what a girly name)

PS Nothing against the average canadian soldier though, it's just the brass that has sh#t for brains.
