liberating a cs and suzerein status

When you liberate a cs and become suzerein, is that supposed to be permanent or a changeable status?

In my first game i liberated a cs, became suzerein and then promptly lost that status to an ai opponent. I am trying to work out if its bug or design?

I think i recall on a live stream suzereinity being granted as a reward for liberation but cant remember if this is supposed to be permanent or temporary?

It's extremely temporary. You get some free envoys and get suzerain but the AI has a tendency to then throw their envoys into it immediately.

All the old envoys, if there were any, are gone. The liberator gets three free envoys. I do think this is too few, should be six. Kindda stupid that whoever you liberate the CS from can easily become suzerain again and make the CS declare war on their liberators.
