Scharnhorst takes command

Russian attacks repulsed, desperate battle on the Vilnus-Minsk road

The new Prussian commander Scharnhorst wasted no time in establishing his intentions routing Russian forces between Vilnus and Minsk and reinforcing troops north of Minsk. Preparations for an assault on Vilnus are now well advanced and both cities are likely to fall before the year is out.

Patriotic crowds turned out in Danzig to take up the challenge of teaching the Czar a lesson. The first volunteer regiments were declared ready to take up duty at Vilnus in support of siege operations.

Scharnhorst inspected the troops in the front line and declared himself well pleased with their battle readiness and elan.

Emperor Franz II travelled to the destoryed city. There he addressed his troops. Saying "This shows the contempt of the Tsar for his people. A bread basket of his nation was put to the torch by the Tsar own soldiers. Tens of thousands of russian peasents will starve. Austria shell give them bread."

Prussian cannon were this day in action at Vilnus. The massed batteries helped turn back Russian relief efforts for the city the columns retreat was turned into a rout after a charge from the 1st Posen curiassars. Guns were also in action against the cities defenders. The Prussian high command believes both Vilnus and Minsk will fall by Christmas.

Meanwhile Baron von Bombast was pleased to declare the first of Pussia's 'Seigfried Line' defensive fortifications was completed between Hannover and Hamburg. Once completed these fortifications will protect Prussias' western borders from agression from both land and sea.

it is with a grave heart that the Emperor has lived to see british scum defile his shores.
10 of the queens own cavalry have landed just out side the city of nantes.
in a mad rush to avert disaster, many of the tricolor horsemen have rushed the attackers, routing the assailants infantry cover, leaving just the horses behind.
a state of emergency has been declared, and martial law instilled throughout the land.

the only ray of light for the fall of 1802 is the great assurance our many allies offer.

we will grieve for those about to fall in Nantes, but we WILL AVENGE them.

Message from George III, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, etc. and Elector of Hannover.

His Majesty is pleased to declare that Nantes has returned to its rightful owner King George. The British monarchy have been the true legitimate rulers of France since 1340, and Nantes is the first region welcomed back into the fold. Success, however, always comes with a cost. There were several major battles and skirmishes before Nantes was successfully taken.

A detachment of French troops north of Nantes (including voltgiers, and Imperial Cavalry), and further units of Cavalry to the east surrendered to the British Scot Grey's.

The Scot Grey's in particular exceeded all expectations, and the Empire salutes our brave British cavalry.

The fighting didn't end there however, the treacherous Spanish also suffered for their turncoat ways. The magnificent Royal Navy sunk Spanish ships in the Battle of Corunna, and also Ottomen ships to the south of Palmi in the Italian Peninsula (the battle of Palmi) We are pleased to report that in both naval battles, fully loaded transport ships were sent to the bottom of the sea.

The Spanish also suffered on land. Spanish troops north of Porto were routed by British-Portugese forces.

British-Italian cannons continue to successfully pound French positions north of Florence, and a full withdrawal is expected soon.

God save the King!

With winter on the way the Austrian High Command is confident that Russia's ability to produce cavalry without having to import horses is finished.
Sadly the 2nd Tarnopol Hussars were destoryed by Russian Guard units.

Vilnus Falls
Garrison surrenders to Prussian onslaught

(Early Edition Report)

The news that the Prussian people have been awaiting has final arrived, Vilnus has fallen. The garrison surrendered after an assault by the 2nd Berlin curiasser regiment. The assault was preceeded by a furious bombardment which saw the Russian guard defenders take considerable casualties. The commander of the 2nd Berliners said he was surprised at facing defenders wielding such outdated weapons in the city proper. This probably helps explain the low casualties amongst the attackers. A Russian column headed toward Vilnus from Riga was also routed in the aftermath of the assault. The victory is due in no small part to the months of careful preparation supervised by Gerhard von Scharnhorst who took over overall command from the disgraced Duke of Brunswick. A court of review is to examine the Dukes conduct prior to his replacement in the coming weeks.

Message from George III, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, etc. and Elector of Hannover.

King George is pleased to announce that we still hold the city of Nantes. In fact, it has been reinforced to try and prevent the French from attempting to claim it back. The King is willing to let the French troops currently on British territory around Nantes walk away, with their honour intact. While Naopleon may not value human life, the British do.

In other news, several Spanish ships (frigates and transports) were sunk to the west of Nantes (with of course, no losses to the Royal Navy) and several Ottoman ships (frigates) were sunk off Palmi.

On land, the French "invasion" of Italy continues. A detachment of French troops attempted to slip past the city of Florence, down the coast towards Rome. Several units of French Voltgiers were cut down where they stood by units of the British Lifeguards.

lifefuardsfv6.jpg

The French troops face a bleak future. They are cut off from sea rescue by the Royal Navy, and face of the prospect of continuing on further into British-Italian territory (and certain death), or a forced march back past the guns of Florence.

Long Live the King!

Duke of Brunswick cleared at military tribunial
A military tribunial cleared the Duke of Brunswick of the allegations made against him of his conduct of the seige of Vilnus. Speaking as a witness at the tribunal Scharnhorst said that attacking the Russian guard would have been as much a risk as not attacking them and although he would have attacked the fact that the city was taken with so little loss of life must vindicate his commander.
The tribunal agreed and recommend that the Duke resume his command of the army as soon as was deemed prudent. Gerhard von Scharnhorst will resume his previous position with additional duties.

Food riots averted in Berlin
Leopold von Gerlach the Mayor of Berlin was forced to call out the milita of that city to quell possible food riots. Rumors had started about a possible food shortage this winter and people were taking to the streets in protest. Fears were later quelled by proof that these rumors were indeed false.

Foreign workers increase Prussian security
There has been a steady flow of foreign labor into Prussia, they have been put to use improving the defences of our nation and in return are allowed to join our great nation said Baron von Bombast.
