wouldn't it be cool if the military units (especially from the ancient and medieval eras) could build forts and roads for themselves?
 
That would make the game too easy and people would take advantage of this.
 
Well, forget the roads. But what about the forts? Maybe it wouldn't be bad if the units could build them, say, in 10 turns, and only during the war.
 
units can fortify and get a bonus for that, so it's in the game IMO. And the specialdefence capability of Roman legions is also in the game: thay have a D of 3 instead of 2 for normall Swordsmen......
 
normal swordsmen only have 1 D.

and if you want forts, use workers with legions protecting them. If you want them quicker, use more workers. The fortify function is like digging trenches etc. so that part is in the game, like killer said. I don't think there's a problem.
