This very simple addon defrags your places database in Firefox. Speeds things up quite a bit: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/vacuum-places-improved/
If its badly fragged youll see an immediate improvement. Since then, Ive runned it once a day for preventive.. and the little vacuum in the status bar is cute

Another online tool. Was tinkering with some php files in my WordPress and I copied a snippet of code which brought the curly quotes along with it... Thought I'd gotten them all out until I noticed something broke. This'll convert curly quotes to straight ones:

I had a DjVu file that I wanted to turn into a PDF. I tried using a PDF printer but it didnt work too good. Then I found that if you have the IrfanView plugins you can open up the file in IrfanView and then export as PDF. Nice!

It appears to freeze up if the files big enough but if you leave it for a few minutes it'll go through.

I would like to recommend two pieces of software that I use a lot:

Dropbox - "Online Backup, file sync, and sharing made easy."

You have a Dropbox folder on your computers. Say you add a file into this Dropbox folder. What will happen is that it will be uploaded to your own Dropbox account and through it, when you turn on another computer with Dropbox installed the file will be added into the Dropbox folder. Same goes with editing and deleting files.

2.0GB is free.

Gyazo - "Seriously Instant Screen-Grabbing."

Basically, Gyazo is printscreen+cropping+imguploading all in one click. You drag the part of the screen that you want and then you release the mouse button. After some seconds, Gyazo will open up a new tab/window with the image you wanted. Just copy the url and post wherever you wanna.

By the way, if you have folders outside the Dropbox you want to sync up, grab SyncToy. I set up the task scheduler to sync it every 2 hours. Used to use directory junctions but that was a little glitchy.

With this SyncToy, are there any limits? I'd like to sync up my music folder of 25 GB.

Theres instructions for the task scheduler in the help file. I set mine to sync at 12:00 am and every 2 hours afterwards indefinitely.

WordPress (which is a software even though it goes on a server) can be used to make beautiful websites... especially when you're too lazy to do all the coding by hand. My sites a bit plain but you can probably find good examples online.

Question: I have a game thats terribly unsophisticated and basically puts the savegame file in its directory rather than a seperate savegame folder. I know how to do directory junctions and sync folders with SyncToy but how do I make regular backups of this 1 file? I tried NTFS hardlinks and symbolic links but it didn't seem to work. Automatically via the task schedule would be useful too

I wanted to edit an ISO file. Did a google and it seems the only ones are shareware with a limit of 300 MB -- no good for my uses.

But then a bit of tinkering and I found another way: Extract the ISO with 7-Zip (or mount it and copy the files). Then you do the edits within the folder on the hard drive. And then you use ImgBurn to recompile it. Its not actually editing the ISO itself but it'll work.

Just thought this would save some people a lot of searching

A new tool! I was having issues trying to export a pdf as an image. This can do it real good, no white space. Free and pro version but i use the free one. I still use Foxit for reading though
