literacy 0%?

Is this a bug? How is it possible for a Civ to have 0% literacy?
I have attached screenshot (immortal, Pangea, standard).

You need writing first to get a measure.

I think it depends upon science buildings like libraries the civ has, but I could be wrong.

This. I believe they start off with pottery, so it is just a tech away.

Is Washington still in the game? Killed before he got to Writing, maybe? Which would still make it a bug (he shouldn't be displaying at all then), but it would explain it, at least.

That bug did exist but was fixed in a recent patch.

nope, he was not killed and still in the game.
I didn't find the explanation yet, so I will check in other games to see if happens again.

Well what I've seen from autoplay AIs, they tend to beeline more than a normal player. So it is possible.

You might be right. I usually play King, so I wouldn't know.

I have the reverse problem - my literacy stays at 0% for everyone even after I've got Writing.

EDIT: never mind; this thread isn't re: Nights.

The AI just need to know Writing, then you see the summary.

I always knew that literacy showed the % of techs researched, but I NEVER knew Writing actually changed the demographics from 0% o.O
