In the game i am now playing, i want to keep me reputation clean.

I have no strategic resources so i will have to attack with archers/longbows (oh what game would it be that i am playing)

Now since they don't have any defence, i would like to ROP rape my enemy in order to prevent counter attacks before reaching the target cities.

My plan is to make a ROP deal, then move in my units and wait until the ROP has ended before attacking anything.

I am however not entirely sure if this is possible. Will my reputation be hurt if i do not leave after the deal has ended? And if i even attack the turn right after?

I think you take a rep hit every time you declare war with troops in their teritory

Crystal is right. However, don't you have any spears? Maybe try ships. (Land the troops right by the city)

If you have *any* troops in your enemy's territory, when you declare war, you will suffer a rep hit for breaking an ROP. If you don't have a real ROP, then you have what is called an "implicit" ROP, which means he hasn't attacked you for not leaving his territory.

If you can set yourself up just outside his territory, you can declare war, then move in and actually attack. This can be tough, unless you have *speedy* troops (Cavalry) or his troops are also right on the border.

If you really want to avoid the counterattack, I suggest a combination of spears and ships. One spear in your stack to absorb the counterattack and ships to land your troops right next to the city.

spears are too weak against MDI and longbows :D.

I often just attacked an enemy without declaring before in enter his territory before. It never caused them to stop accepting 20 turns deals from me.
So there muct be some difference between that and breaking a real ROP right?

I saw a pretty odd exception from the rule:
In the same game as Wacken (at least, I guess so), I was preparing a stack 2 tiles away from Civ B's capital, but in Civ A's territory (had a RoP with A). The fact I needed the RoP had something to do with the fact The Great Library was in that capital ;).
Unfortunately, exactly in the interturn before I could strike, Civ A's city flipped to Civ B...
So, I declared on B, took the city that flipped immediately, and proceeded with the attack on the capital. Surprisingly, my rep was absolutely clean, I even could get a RoP with B after peace.
Odd and rare situation, I agree. But it seems you do have to move units into the territory to commit a RoP rape; if the territory comes to your units, it doesn't matter. Same as signing a MPP with Civ X doesn't mean Civ X will declare on Civ Y that already has units in your territory (unless those units commit a hostile act, of course).

I'll do a little test game on this. I don't have any save files other than this game however, don't want to play up to the point where i can test this and don't know how to customize maps etc.

Can anyone post me a save game where you have:
-The ability to make ROP deals with nearby AI's.
-A clean reputation.

Wacken, it's really easy to customize a map in the editor, shouldn't take any time at all to set up a test, all you need to do is generate a map, then set the active player (one of those buttons at the top) set out some cities / units / whatever. Then after you set up one civ, change the active player using the same button to set it as before and lay out the cities / units / whatever for the other civ(s)
