Little questions & answers thread

The most direct historical examples for these are probably the Macaronesian Islands, which served as a stepping stone to the New World for Spain and Portugal
But aren‘t these the opposite? On different continent (either Africa or none, certainly not Europe), while not being Distant Lands?

I was thinking of islands that are on the same continent but can be considered distant lands. Hence, Cyprus, which afaik is geographically in Africa, and Socotra which is in Asia, but both are actually closer to another continent and seem to resemble the shores of that continent more than their geographically correct continent.

I was just wondering if there are actually better examples than these two?

Both continent and distant lands are somewhat fuzzy terms, so it is hard to get definitive answers. The Azores are certainly not on the African continent. Also not Europe, but if the world map was in Civ7 terms, the Azores would probably be categorized as Europe. And they are probably also distant lands, but yeah, that is arguable.

A good example is probably Madagascar: It is commonly categorized as being in Africa (although that is debatable as well), but with its unique flora and fauna I would classify it as distant lands for mainland Africans.

Does a Wonder count as a Quarter when it comes to Palace adjacencies?

The Palace gets +1 science and +1 culture from each adjacent Quarter, so I want to know if I get those adjacencies when building a Wonder in the first ring.

No it doesn't.

One tip regarding palace adjacencies: they buff specialists as well, so it may be useful to assign specialists to the palace sometimes.

When you get these events, how long is the bonus applicable for - just the current age, or the rest of the game?

I've assumed it lasts for the current age. The capital could move in the next age; the civ will change. But I don't have any source to cite.

I'm confused on the age rankings screen, when it shows your age progress on each legacy path. I understand the "7/7", "12/12", "10/10", and "20/20" for Culture, Military, Science, and Economic respectively, but does the "age progress "x/20" below each mean? Where are those numbers coming from?

Each path has it's own metric, they are described. For example, for antiquity cultural path it's number of wonders you have, for antiquity economic path - number of resources slotted and so on.

Each Legacy path also adds to age progression. The first time any player reaches a milestone an amount is added. (total of 20 for all milestones on one Antiquity path)

How much Age Progress do we receive for each milestone?

I can see if it's 5 Age Progress per legacy path, which then equals 20 Age Progress in total, but then how much age progress we get for each milestone, or even every tick mark?

Correct me if I'm wrong:
  • There are 3 milestones per legacy path
  • There are total of 12 milestones from all legacy paths (3 milestones x 4 legacy paths)
  • 1 completed legacy path contributes to 5 Age Progress
I attached a screenshot to help me understand these Age Progress numbers.

Good question! The 1st and 2nd milestones of each legacy path are 5 units of age progress, and the 3rd is 10. So 5+5+10 = 20 total.

Answered, and now I'll ask, how can I tell which buildings reside in a quarter? Yes, I can memorize the images, but without Sukritact's Simple UI mod, I'm struggling to find how to know the best strategy for overbuilding in the modern age, especially for unique quarters.

@taulph88 ,in addition to the answer by @gbw , the progress per milestones differs per era. Each turn also gives progress. The limit that you need depends on age length.

If you can't tell visually which buildings are in a quarter, you can hover over the tile with TCS Improved Plot Tooltip. There is also a mod that highlights tiles for unique districts in a way that signalizes "you can't build both here" (because one of the two buildings on this plot can't be overbuilt), "you can build both here", and "you've built the first building for the district here". I'm not sure which mod it is, but I would guess it's City Hall.

I occasionally get reminders that time for a quest is running out -long after I've forgotten what the quest is...
I don't see anyplace to look up pending quests?

Running quests are in the upper left. I don‘t think you can hide them completely there, just minimize them. So, if you can’t see them there but get a reminder, it may be a bug?
