[GS] Livestreamer Previews Discussion Thread

GamerZach has potential. He has showmanship but I am afraid he sometimes do not understand the game. There was one point where he popped a tribal hut accidentally and was unaware what happened.

Potato is good. I am happy that he got a press build. He was doing okay with that Maori gameplay.

Quill, I don't know what happened to him. He used to be good at civ. Now in his Canada gameplay I feel bored.

That video is cool. Those governor changes are great.

I find myself disagreeing a lot with his opinions though. For example in the first few minutes he says there's a clash between Viktor's promotions. Why would moving Viktor around conflict with these changes? He's usually taken by warmongers who recruit on the front lines. The free promotion is essentially providing you with on the spot training without the drawbacks of not having an encampment or harbor in the district for when you want to replenish or push. It's a bonus that wasn't there before.

:nono:

Edit: Still entertaining though. He's also pleasant to listen to.

Agreed!

I like Potato but I almost never agree with him.

His playstyle and what he looks for in a game is pretty different to how I play so it is interesting to watch though.

Always good to get different perspectives

So from what I've seen, the Panama Canal doesn't have any more effects other than immediately build up to 2 more Canals for free? That's very underwhelming.

Could be situationally powerful in humanoid hands, but what are the odds the AI will build it across a seven-tile island or something...

Yea, he is my favorite. Quill18 is just goofing around and doing random stuff, the german guys are all super boring and still in the stone age after 20 videos, the french guys are rushing through the game just spam clicking through everything so I can't see any tooltips and the spanish guys talk CONSTANTLY the whole video (even while breathing in).

We have stereotypes for a reason you know.

It also passively increases trade route income (when they pass through it).
That applies to all Canals, not exclusive to the wonder.

Well, I mean it's just a canal. It's not magical.
Yeah, but still, it's better if you have situational incentives to build this damn thing. Right now, literally it is just "instead of building multiple canal sections, you can build them in one". That's disappointing to say at least.

Well, no, because you can't build multiple canal sections otherwise. That being said, I never understood the appeal of canals in the first place, so...

It does allow you to span a greater distance. A regular canal can't be placed end to end. They have to be between two water tiles or a water tile and a city center.

The whole mechanic of "if your proposal fails, the opposite happens" is gamey as hell. It may be my least favorite aspect of GS.

Yeah, if I saw this coming I'd be tempted to squirt off all my WMDs before they got deleted.

Perhaps the resolution should be (a) no new WMD can be built and Civs with WMD pay triple maintenance and -X diplomatic favour per turn, (2) all Civs receive +X% production building WMDs and receive +y diplomatic favour per turn.

Otherwise, I’m afraid I prefer having random resolutions + special Emergency sessions. Actually feels less gamey, because you can’t just “ban crabs”. I just hope there’s enough random resolutions that it all doesn’t feel repetitive.

So, which IZ building gives production equal to adjacency?

I saw it was the Coal Plant in one screen cap. Has that changed? Others have said the Factory? Which is it?

To be clear, it should be the Factory. If it’s not, that’s literally the first thing I’m modding. If only for the Glory of Japan.

I like Potato. He really can’t play the game, and his opinions are way off (in my book). But I like him.

The best streamer (not counting our own CivTrader6) is TheGameMechanic. I’m frustrated they didn’t give him a copy of the game.

...can I also just add, the changes to Tier 3 Governments (abilities and having a smattering of government exclusive cards), the Tier 4 Governments, and changed to Governors are just ... I mean, they’re just tricking awesome. Just awesome.

I still think the Governors need work and maybe governance needs some work overall. But these changes ... well, it’s going to feel like a whole different game. I think there will be scope for way more distinct and interesting strategies, and lots of much harder choices about what direction you take your Civ.

I mean, the change to Pingala is obviously big, and means you really have to choose carefully between him, Magnus and Liang. But less obvious is Liang’s buff to Fisheries and Parks when she’s in your city - there’s now a real reason to level her up and not just have her bopping around your Cities. And she’ll let you develop a really powerful Coastal Capital if you want to do that (which, man, I do. My Phoenicia Capital is going to crush everyone.)

I can’t believe I’m going from such disappointment with RnF to being so absolutely pumped for GS. FXS look like they’ve absolutely nailed it. Just the rebalancing alone is worth the purchase price.

(And yeah. I still want a Third Expansion. Sorry FXS, you can’t make something this good and think we’re just going to let you walk out of here. #onemoreexpansion)

Okay thanks to all the screenshotting I have made a big update to the Features Thread.

From the Maori vids, it seems hills do not count as a passable feature for the Marae bonus, unless I am going blind.

Oh? First time I have watched him, and he seems to know his stuff. He is just messing around in these vids, though.

Oooohhhh, ok so at least that is something special about the wonder. Thanks for the explanation.

Sudden thought: Since the icons are different hair... will animated leader Eleanor be DIFFERENT AGES OF ELEANOR?

Suddenly I might be hyped for Eleanor again. Instead of twin Eleanors, what if we have Eleanor the Younger and Eleanor the Elder?
Indeed...

No, Hills aren't classified as a feature. The Marae bonus would be for forest, rainforest, marsh, floodplain, or reefs. Not sure how geothermal vents get classified, but the bonus won't apply to hills or mountains, which are not technically classified as features for this.
