My apologies if I am late to the party and this ha already been fixed, but here is what I discovered ...

I could not load my 300 + turn game anymore no matter what (standard map). Tried turning things down, switching off AV etc. My machine runs Civ 5 fine. The message I would get was "this program has stopped responding " (win 7). What I suspected was that actually there was something not kosher between windows and Civ 5, not AV and Civ 5 so I ran Civ 5 in Comodo Internet Security's sandbox as "untrusted". It worked and I have tested it several times. Without sandbox it crashes with sandbox it loads fine. I am sure there are other ways to achieve the same thing, other sandboxes, windows settings etc. I hope this helps someone out there.

No loss of performance in this particular sandbox btw!

I have no idea what you're talking about... Sandbox what?!? But I've got trouble loading just about any game recently, something to do with Microsoft Visual C++ debug something something.. I don't quite understand... Why must this happen? There's been no problem with this before?

@ossmobilus: Sandbox means, that there's a security software which isolates the programm completly from the operating system, so that it can't affect anything else around.

...let's guess a bit here...are civ5/Steam run with admin rights? Because i guess the sandbox simulates such rights (in the sandbox; so that nothing interferes with the program), and if you run it without...

It think it has admin rights, at least the box 'run as admin' is checked in properties. But can that have anything to do with loading? I only started having trouble with that last week, and haven't been able to load a game since...

Ahh, wait... It's probably something to do with the mods I'm using. The vanilla version suck so bad I forget I always rely on my mods ;P I'll have to check that...

It was one my mods. I've cleaned up my mods selection, and the game works again. I've no idea which mod caused the problem, because I didn't methodicly go through them all, simply deleted everything. Probably just a conflict of sorts...
