Lock ups, all the time!

Love this game but the lock ups are driving me crazy. I have a Dell XPSB866r system with 256 RDram, Elsa Galadiac Ultra and a Sound Blaster Live value edition card. Plenty of hard drive space..
The mouse is a Logitech cordless trackman wheel with the lastest drivers. The video card has the latest drivers from Elsa.

I have to boot every time the lockup happens. I have tried to reinstall the game, no luck. It even locked up with "all" other applications turned off. Help will be greatly appreciated.

when is the lockup occuring? i was having trouble with right-clicking on units inside the city screen--disbanding one and fortigying another consiistently locks my machine, so i switched to using hotkeys for the task and the problem was temporarily solved.
