Logging out?

I came up against an interesting problem today. While at my brother's place, I was browsing a few fora. He then decided to register, but we couldn't find a way to log me out. No where on the Main Page, User CP, or even the Register button could we find the option to log out. In the end, he deleted the CFC cookies, which allowed him to register.

On rare occasions (and I have yet to find out what criteria are needed), I will visit CFC at my home computer, and it tells me I need to log in. So clearly, it is possible to log out. It's just not at all obvious how.

Therefore, i would recommend adding a "logout" button somewhere on the forum page or User CP. If it is already there, then it ought to be more obvious.

EDIT: Clicking Register when you are already logged in gives the following message: "Our records show that you have already registered at this board under the name of cromagnon. If you have lost your password, click here. If you would like to modify your profile, click here." and there is a Forum Jump menu bar below it.

There already is a logout button. Go to "Post Reply" and at the top next to "Logged in user" it says your name and logout next to it.

I think theres a logout button on the main page but Im not entirely sure.

Ah, now you reminded me, Silverflame. The only other time I've been given the option to log out is when I accidentally try to edit someone else's message, and it tells me I'm not a mod.

Still, what you describe is neither obvious nor intuitive as a method of logging out.

Okay, I found the logout button on the forum home that I recalled. On the bottom above the banner ad under the current people online to the right of the time it says "logout" Extremely small though

Thunderfall has already succeeded, Dell19!

Thanks for the info, Silverflame. Even though the times you need to use it are limited, I still think it ought to be a little more obvious.

And besides the methods already mentioned, you can also go to your User CP, then options, and then bubble in "no" for the option "Automatically login when you return to the site? (uses cookies)." Then exit the window and come back to CFC, and you won't be logged in.

Also, in Mac OS X style, there is a logout option on the top of the main page in the rectangle with your name, title, postcount, and some other things. It's not in any of the other styles, though.

I would guess that its around 20 minutes. Although that may just be when the New posts function is reset.

I don't think there's a time-out when you have "automatically log in after returning" or something like that selected. At least not on my computer. Either that or it's a reeeaally long time-out.

But if you don't have that option selected, 20 minutes sounds about right.

Me thinks it also depends on browser, respectivly browser settings. Maybe business on CFC, too. I guess I get the time out after <10 minutes w/o any *action*. And typing a "quick reply" isn't considered as *action* here.

but what's a time-out?

Is it that you're automatically logged-out of CFC if you don't do anything for a period of time?
If so, than this really differs... I read 10 and 20 minutes, but I log on at work and if I'm on and leave for lunch or something and do some other stuff and return, say one hour or more later, I'm still logged on....

Darkness,
that's exactly what I meant. Probably you've enabled using cookies in "options" here (and of course in browser options).
