hmm i get 2 pop up ads here simultaniously, one says i am the 10,000,000 visitor to this site and i get a special prize, and the other saying i'm the 2,287,414th visitor to this website and i STILL get a special prize.... stupid popup scams

amazing, we are both the 10,000,000th visitor. I'm just wondering why they are here. This site isn't run from ads other than the banners, so what gives??? mods???

Use a popup window killer like POW! (the one I use) or EMS Free Surfer mk II. You can download either of them (or one of many others) from the WebAttack Popup Blocker Page.

Alternatively you can bookmark forums.civfanatics instead of w w w. civfanatics. For the time being at least, the forums don't have popups.

I think of popups the way I think of that annoying ugly skank that always lurks at bars at closing time, and tries so desperately to hang onto you and annoyingly plead their pathetically needy propositions at you.

Persistance REPELS me! At least TRY to play a little "hard to get" or act indifferent! Jeez! Ish....

Anyway, three popped up the last time I was looking at the full board of threads here in the off-topic--i.e. three ON ONE PAGE! This is getting to look like a Geo-Cities site for God's sake....

I have the popup zapper, but still they accumulate among my minimized windows. Once they made my computer freeze up. Do you think I'll ever give that business in that ad a DIME?!?

NOT!!!

Get them the hell out of here. If I need something, I'LL seek it out, thank you.

Or you save disk-space (in more ways than one) and find an alternate browser, i.e. Mozilla or Opera, with popup-killing features that MSIE curiously doesn't offer (Microsoft and these insufferable advertisers are in league with eachother! Kill them all!) ...

BTW, the notion that advertising works is a complete fallacy. For the first time in history, the industry can enumerate the number of interested recipients of an ad through just one medium (the 'net), and as it turned at there weren't all that many. Perhaps it's because most internet users are actively seeking information whereas the TV viewing public is a passive audience, I sure as hell don't know. But how do these online marketers respond? More obnoxious popups - that are now impossible to readily close!
