Lonely Hearts Club, BtS Edition, Chapter LXXII: Wang Kon

Checkpoint 2.5
Spoiler :
I beelined Astro pretty hard and put a single bulb into it. It came around 880AD. Then I set out to meet and greet the world. The big continent was all Buddhist, chit. So I decide to befriend them. A few turns later, JC and Vicky declare on Toku  Vicky asks me to declare as well, so I comply. Toku doesn't even have Compass yet :mischief:

I trade with Hammy which pissed Sury off. But, the turn after my big tech trade, Sury declared on Hammy and asked me to join, so I comply

Still no GSpy from the GWall city, or any GP for that matter. If he/she comes at all, it will be late.

Now to the lolwtf, the lib race is still on :smoke:

Looks like Toku is the only one with Philo. No one else has Paper yet.

I guess at this point, I'm going to try and win the Lib race. I'm not sure what tech to go for, but I guess whatever I can get would suffice?

I guess I'm still looking for a target as I'm not quite ready for an invasion yet. Though, Hammy is looking pretty good.

Checkpoint 1:

Spoiler :
Had a wonderfull stat, managed to get my hands on the two gold cities and the gems from the small island. The fogbusting went smoothly as well, and I was stampeding on with 4 commerce-dense cities.

My strategy was more or less to simply cottage up everything, and utilize the stone to get oxford up asap.

Checkpoint 2:
Spoiler :
When I had met all AIs, it was clear that Toku has vassalised Sury, and was more or less dominating Cesar.
Quin and Hammy was in war with each other, and there was little I could do, to stop Toku from gaining escape velocity.

Checkpoint 3:
Spoiler :
I tried to take the semi-big island that had 2 barb cities on it, but when I was almost set, toku declared on me, and landed a SOD on the island. I took this as a que that the game was lost.

Very interesting game! I have played very little with fin leaders, and this gave me some nice perspectives. :)

Believe it or not... But I was about to ask whether there was an AI close enough to rush with the Hwacha.
Feel free to post facepalms.

Final Checkpoint
Spoiler :
Ok, from my last checkpoint, I ended up libbing Military Tradition. Then to Chemistry for the Frigate(bombards coastal cities ;) ). Then to rifling. Hammy was the first target. I started by sending over 12 Cavs, then just ferried over what I could as it was built. Took three cities and capitulation.
Spoiler :

Next was China. Took four cities and capitulation.

About this time, JC finishes the Apollo Program. Ruh roe! What's this? Surry declares on him, lolololololololol. So I declare on Surry, take three cities and capitulation.

Now it's me against, JC and his two vassals, Vicki and Toku. I decide to build the UN(a first for me). Then focused on happiness, healthiness, and food.

Finally, 1909AD Diplo baby

A bit shaky, but this is my first Emp win from total Iso :D

I think you're an expansion pack behind, when siege could kill IIRC.

Heh, I miss those days. You didn't even need metals, you just needed hordes of Catapults and you could get through anything.

On topic: I have yet to win a Monarch game by Conquest/Domination, haha. Even my violent games end in me building the UN or AP and voting myself king.

No, I'm not, Gracchus, I was planning to combine them with some axes/swords ;)

Wait....
Spoiler :
You can't reach the other island by land...that means you need astro for galleons...won't hwacha/axe/sword be largely obsolete?

Spoiler :
Four of the AI are pretty close. In my game on Emp, I did not start my first war until the 1500's and the AI still only had longbows and horse archers. I had Astro by the 800'sAD but I waited for Cavs and Frigates just to be safe. I know I could have gotten Astro sooner, AZ managed to get it in the 700'sAD on Imm.

^
Spoiler :
I was planning a slow space race win, I was in a bad tech situation so I didn't have rifling and some of the AI's might have had it, so I didn't want to try my odds against rifles.

^
Spoiler :
The key is definitely early Astro(Optics > Calendar). You get to start stirring up wars between AIs who will not even be able to reach you for a loooooong time :mischief: This screws with their tech rate so bad. Picking the right AI/s to befriend and befoe is another key. Do not get on JC's bad side, that's the death penalty. Lastly, planning. Have 2-3 Triremes in position ready for an upgrade at Optics. Meet as many AI as you can ASAP. Then have your army ready to load the freshly upgraded Galleons upon discovery of Astro.

Granted, it's easy for me to say this because I have map knowledge in this case. One would have to commit to this course of action very early at the cost of a proper REX.

^ To do that ASAP you'd actually have to cut expansion or face longbows or better (in which case you just wait for better units). Seems a bit silly on any difficulty to train up weak units and attack overseas w/o good infra development at home.

You're absolutely right. Hence the caveat I left in my final comment on the subject, One would have to commit to this course of action very early at the cost of a proper REX.

I see where you are coming from. Is it good play? Hayul to teh no! Is it possible given the constraints outlined? I think so.

I was in no way suggesting that a "noble" try this at noble. Actually, I was hoping for someone such as yourself to give this feat a go at noble. I apologize for any ambiguity in any of my comments.
