On my high-end machine the game takes almost 2 min to load up initially. Init Python is responsible for about half this time alone.
Specs:
AMD FX-55
Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP-939 (nForce 3) board
2 GB RAM
6800 Ultra 256 MB video card (AGP)
With this setup I run Civ4 on all high video settings, except AA which I shut off. Resolution is 1680 x 1050. But the game takes a long time to load, and once in the game whenever I click one of the buttons (e.g. Single Player, Play Now) I get a lag of about 10 sec during which the Civ4 wheel icon runs and the game accesses the hard drive. I thought this was normal until ...
I installed the game on a lower-end machine.
Specs:
Intel 2.0 ghz
1 GB RAM
Appropriate video card at that time, sorry forgot ... probably the one right before the 5900 line.
On the low-end machine I ran the game at 1280 x 1024 with all the video options turned off or to the lowest setting. But Civ4 loaded FAST, like 20 secs or less total. Moreover there was no lag when clicking the in-game buttons.
Shouldn't the game load up quicker on the fast machine, and slower on the low-end machine? And the 10 sec lag when choosing game options, what's that all about? I'm asking this because I don't have a single game that takes more than 20 secs or so to load, except this one of course.
Granted once I create a map and start playing the fast machine runs silky smooth, while the slow machine is somewhat choppy in comparison. But the initial load time has me concerned. Is this normal or is there something wrong with my system? I use XP and latest drivers for all devices. Also I'm running the D2D version of Civ4 with 1.52 patch.
Thanks
