I have been building www.newezone.com for 6 months. I have a Forum, Chat, URL submission for search engines and heaps of stuff, but recently I posted some polls around asking what people thought, and the general idea that I got back was that it looked bad (hard on the eyes) with the coloring.

Please take a few minutes. All I need you to do is take a quick look (there are only 2 pages up) and give me a general idea of what you think.

Thankyou in advance for helping me out.

Hey can't someone go a look for the poor goose sake???
lol.gif

I don't have the time nor do I want to do it, but somebody's got to do it....

To be honest the colours still seem to clash.

The yellow doesn't sit well with me.. and the blue seems a little dark.

I tend to like the Civfanatics colour scheme because of the subdued grey.. it has one darker colour (the burgundy)and one lighter colour (the grey).. then the black is more of a non colour which stands out against both.

I remember you. You were the guy who used to answer every topic in the forum.

Yellow is uncomfortible to the human eye off a monitor, for some reason.
A pale blue would play off with that rich blue, or perhaps a very light grey if you make the blue a shade darker.

Don't get discouraged. I HATE choosing colour schemes mostly because I'm realy BAD at it.

When I was in college I was taking a web programing course our assignments included creating our own pages...

I'd get a page all set up and my little brother would walk into my room... take one look at it and say "You're not using THOSE colours are YOU?" lol

In my job now i work with somebody else that has some artistic ability. HE designs the layout and colour schemes. I in turn "make it happen".

I don't mind the blue, but the yellow is a bit bright. If you like yellow why not try a paler shade? As AofA said a light blue or grey would go with the darker blue.

Btw I like the uncluttered look.

Ok, I am going to make the background a beige/brown/cream kinda color,(the part that is now blue lines). I am going to keep the text background white, and I will use very light blues, greens and some goldish/yellow
smile.gif

LOL, er...yeah, like THAT made sense?
*hehe*
I'll come back here and let you know when it's done.

Keep in mind that I have alot more content on my HDD, but I have only set up limited pages so that I can mess with the look. Once I am happy, and more than 50% of people give me the thumbs up, I will have heaps more content.
Thankyou for your comments, keep'em coming, they are highly appreciated

ok, after alot of feedback that I got from posting in all the forums that I'm registered in (only 9 or so), I have decided to mamake yet another color scheme for http://www.ez0ne.com

Most people said that my site was too hard on the eyes and the blue and yellow dont match, and that the clash, especially against white.

Now, I always use a white background, because you can put almost 'ANYTHING' on it. Almost ANY text, ANY image, and it will not clash or be hard to read. White (in my opinion) is the most versatile color. SO...

To please everyone that says white is too hard on the eyes, I have substituted it for color #fefefe, which I a very mild cream (almost white).

I sure do hope I get better feedback this time, then I can get stuck into my site.

For those that don't know, I had my site up and running full steam ahead. Then, just to see what everyone thought, I posted site reviews in heaps of forums. Most people were subtle, but the general impression that I got was that everyone hated it!

So, after many re-designs, I have gone from a bright blue/gold/white scheme to a scheme that is easier on the eyes.

I am looking forward to your comments, and thankyou for everyone that has helped me get my site look presentable for the majority.

OH... ALSO, please let me know what you think og my new logo, you will see it on my site, you can't miss it. I made it in PaintShop 5 with no plugins

Kind Regards, and thanks heaps!

G'day MrLen and welcome back, now that Dr Darkshade has disappeared another Aussie steps back in to take his place.

ith regard the site I would say white is a definite winner. It looks classy and professional, it is very hrd to get it right with other colours.

IMHO the colors are just fine, MrLeN!
I was reading about the concept of your site, but I do not fully understand it. What do you try to accomplish with the site?

Yep. You nailed it. I like the new look.

Careful with the colour "#fefefe" however.. it isn't "websafe" which means you may get some anomalies on different browsers.

A websafe colour is any colour using ANY combination of 00,33,CC,FF,99. They will be displayed EXACTLY the same on ALL browsers. ALL the time.

We were taught in school to only ever use websafe colours. here's an example of the websfe pallet:

Thankyou once again ppls! Civ fanatics remains my most encouraging source of help.

Pedro,
My site will make more sense real soon. With all the posts that I've made on different sites asking for opinons on look, you wouldn't believe how many ppl have analised code, meta tages etc etc...
I can't wait to get the content up to shut these people up! LOL
In short, ez0ne.com is just a place for webmasters and pagebuilders to share information and ideas. Also, memebers of ez0ne.com Recieve free advertiing on my site as well as a link in the member directory.
It also has IRC Chat, a URL Submitting script, Javascript code, images gifs and bacgrounds. None of it is up yet because I want to get the color right. I had the site in working order, but I got tired of everyone saying that it hurts their eyes, so i cracked a wobbly and deleted my server. At this stage content should be literally ignored, I am just looking for comments on the coloriing. I wish some other people would get that! To tell you the truth, I'm getting a little peeved. One guy told me that the site is ok but it's all jumbled and hard to navigate. I wrote back asking how exactly does 'he' think I managed to jumble up 2 pages (both have a menu for 'both' pages at the top) PAH! The site is not really layed out in final. It is similar, but the only thing that is staying for now now, is the coloring. Soon ez0ne.com will be up, I will work on the layout, meta tags and content.

Redwold,
Thanks for the advice buddy

I kinda knew about the colorsafe pallet, but I kinda tossed it aside (coz I just wanted to change my colors quickly). I do understand and agree with you that I am going to have to check to see and substitute all colors used for the closest colorsafe ones. I'll do that next.

I don't think it's possible to make a site that's satisfactory for everyone. I mean: everybody thinks civfanatics' colors are OK now, but I guess there've been tons of comments about it in the past, just like with your site. Personally I think ez0ne.com has a fresh look and feel and... it loads pretty fast, so the coding must be pretty good too (I usually make sites that are sooo slow & big, because my coding is a complete mess <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/shakehead_ron.gif" border=0>).
Anyway: the concept of your site sounds quite promising. I'm thinking of creating some new internetsites in the future (school's taking up a lot of time right now), so I'll subscribe to your site to exchange thoughts on webdesign with other members. I'm sure I'll learn a lot!

Gee thanks Pedro <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>
Yeah, you are right, I can't please everyone.
At least now I am getting alot of nice comments. It just makes it all seem more worth while, and it's more appreciated.

I have spent alot of time learning to make fast code. Part of the reason that my code loads pretty fast is that I started out writing pages in notepad. Get this... I thought they were all made in notepad! LOL

Since then I have started to use 1st page, but I still type the code myself. It has become habit and my code never has any unnecessary jargon.

I also make all graphics nd background my self. Would you believe that the background for the site is less that 1kb? It is 4x1 pixels *hehe*

I am sure ez0ne.com is going to take off well. I only re-released it 3 days ago, and I already have 5 moderators, 10 members and over 100 posts on my site.

I am ranked #7 in google for "irc java chat" and my site has never really been fully up, but this is the last design. It is sure to take off, and I sure do hope that all the hard work that I've put in will create a site that has thousands of visitors per day.

That is my aim <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>

Have you ever heard of http://digitalrice.com
? It is a free webhost (new one) that offers 5omb of webspace, 6mb pop3 email account and they have NO banners or adds on your site!

I suggest you check it out. Those popups are ruining a perectly fine site

MrLeN

Oh, and they have a fast NT server too
smile.gif

They have been switching between apache and NT, I think it's NT at the moment, lol
