I wonder what the staying and concentrating powers of civers are. What is the longest session you have had (permitted activities being drinking and food at the keyboard and screen)? As a "senior" I'm finding my concentration starts to go after 2 hours.

I think if you're timing how long your playing for, then its not really in the spirit of playing.

What ever happened to playing and losing track of time? Playing and then seeing that its half an hour before you have to get up for work?

THAT's Civing!:D

Since I get limited time on my computer (parents...). My maximum was only about 4 hours but then I only ment to play fo about 3 hours because I wanted to do some IT homework...

Uh, is this longest session in Civ2 or all the Civs?
I except it's for Civ2.

Satuday evening, I rose up from bed 9:00, played ½hour, then get to shower.
in 10:00AM I started the session, and next time I watched the clock it was 3:50 AM next morning... :D

Once in Civ1 I played until the computers screen turned itself off,
sayed a loud 'buff' and then
there rose a steam of it... :D :o

Don't get me wrong - I too used to lose track of time playing through the early hours of the morning. I just thought it would be interesting to get an idea of how addiction goes with staying power :)

The count so far then:

Juize heads the count with something just under 16 hours :goodjob:
Then Dell19: 4 hours
Achinz: 2 hours

We argee with greenie, but not only because they

civ on a mac. As far as the question is concerned

we would be suprised to find that most civers

spend as little as two hours at a session. As far

as staying sharp during a session we have many

times after breakfast on saturdays played way past

midnight before starting to get spacey.

That's priceless!

Indeed, Greenie has a point. Most often I just lose myself in the game, time flying by whilst I happily play. And all of a sudden I peek at some close by clock and realize I'm running late for this and/or that or simply been playing a helluva time.

I guess my normal span is about 1,5-2 hours, but I could without thinking too much wager that I've been playing up to some 12 or so hours uninterrupted before. Long multiplayer games locked down in some dank ( alright, pretty warm and dry, but still ) basement with only a few friends and a LAN. Even longer single player games all alone, conquering the world at a dreadfully slow pace, hours trickling by. ;) Those are things one lives for.

:goodjob:

I usually set out to play for 1/2 Hour then give up after 2 hours.
Work, Wife and Babies have put a stop to most late night sessions, I rarely play past 1am any more, I used to give up about 4am after 7-8 hour stint. The biggest problem was the thought "I'll just finish off the French" (or any other civ) then find they've settled somewhere unexplored, and you just can't give up until it's done. .... then its 4am.

Or finish that wonder, research or spaceship...

It's beginning to look like the "timeless" addicts are holding sway :)

Still it is good to be able to empathize with ferenginar - I've gone down the same process of disengagement because of family circumstances.

i have parental rules now... my parents put a rule on my computer time because of civ, one summer a couple years ago when i had nothing better to do i was playing civ for somewhere around 20 hours:eek: after that my parents made me "share" the computer.

My time is limited too...:(

At uni several years ago (before every campus hall had dreamed of LAN's and such forth) we rigged up a 7 person LAN in our kitchen/TV room, and bar quickly going out for ten minutes ot the shop to buy more Marlboro and ready to eat sandwiches/pizza/coke/coffee, we played from saturday 10am to monday midday in a huuge 7 player fest.

I won in the end, but only just - I was down to my capital, i destroyed all roads around it, and had 30-40 troops in there, and my spaceship snuck into Alpha Centauri two turns ahead of the next guys :D

That sounds really good...I am at school but doing A levels. I could have gone to college but our school is better...Mainly because it offers more subjects than the college.

I woke up in the morning at 6AM, turned on the computer. 15 minutes later (or so it seemed) I glanced at the clock and it said 6:30PM. I was so shocked that I was doing nothing but playing Civilization all day that my brain just sort of froze up (and then the Celts declared war on me, the result wasn't pretty)
