Greece, Egypt or Persia. These 3 are reals civ from the ancient times with ancient age UU, so that's nice from a historic perspective. None of the three have been played recently in GOTM. My personal favourite would be Greece, becauseit's the "truest" mediteranian civ of the 3, the other 2 are more middle-east...

1) I don't want repeat civs, so avoid the recently played civs.

2) How about the Songhai - largest Western African empire? I already did them in the LK39 sg and the are close to the med. I could have supply the stats inlcuding there UU, the Dynia (5-3-2) knight replacement.

Or the squids could be stationary but have a range of control like Scylla and Charybdis ...

And the Vikings could be raiding coastal towns ...

I'm really looking forward to the game.

I thought we haven't finish with all the civ? THere are 4 more to go aren't it? eg Arabia, Mongols etc.... BUt if it has to be Mediteranean, well I guess it will be Arabia!!

I don't know if it is feasible, but I would love to see a game where we are someone like Greece, but there is another civ that is essentially new as a competitor, one we don't know much about (and isn't in the civlopedia to look up). So we wouldn't know how aggressive the civ is, what characteristics it has, what its favored government is, etc.

France, Greece, Babylon, Egypt.

I generally like civs with either sci or religoius trait. Babylon is of course a blast except their UU kinda stinx.
I think I'd like to roll out some early warfare with Egypt :)
Not that THEIR UU is so good :p

Think again! Check out Sirp latest Open SG game. We have only built 1 homegrown settler and now are pushing towards domination using only WC and swords upto this point. War Chariots at 20 shields rock. The only draw back is Mountains and Jungle are impassible.

Anyway I would like to see Egpyt.

I voted for the original civ3 once, let's play 'em again but at a different difficulty setting (not to mention maps and such). The Babylonian (GOTM14) comes to mind as a horror since it was on Deity level.

I voted Greece because they're scientific) and an unspecified non-land Civ (Minoan? Phoenician? Philistine?) because it would be something a little different.

I voted for all since I normally like to have the computer randomly select the civ for me. I liked the ideas about having an unknow civ as an opponent. Another interesting twist would be playing as Atlantis. Can you change all our units to walk on water and the settlers to only found in the water? AI couldn't touch us until marines! Or have land-based Atlantians that have galleys that can cross the ocean without navigation. Here's a good place for the donut shaped world with a few islands in the middle.

Atlantis,
scientific and commercial,
starting on an island in the center of the Mediterranean.

Other civs: Carthage, Rome, Greece, Celts, Egypt, Spanish, French, Russians and the English (Gibraltar, Malta, Crete).

UU: an amphibious version of the Euro Swordman.

I was just typing in the Atlanteans, had a phone call, submitted my reply, and then saw your post.
