Just ahead- there in the moonlight.
A friend and I are looking for a good turn-based mulitiplayer strategy game. Preferably it should be historically based (ancient Rome, WWI or WWII would be good). Can anyine advise of some good games out there meeting that rough description?

If it doesn't have to be turn-based, shoot for Age of Empires 2 or Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. That's just what I like. If it has to be turn-based my friend says probably Civilization 3. :)

Victoria isn't exactly turn based, and I have never played it multiplayer, but if you're into a historical game it is definately an excellent choice

Again, it isnt exactly turn based but if your into WWII and stuff, you would literally fall in LOVE with Sudden Strike (also SSII is out).

Thanks everyone;

It HAS to be turned-based as my friend and I are on different continents, have work commitments etc- so we really can't be online a tthe same time- at least not for long enough to enjoy a game.

I'm intereseted in this "Victoria" game- but KaeptnOvi says it it insn't exactly turn-based- would it be suitable for the circumstances I described above?

there is a game called Steel Panthers.
it's turn based, WWII.
it's old, so the only way to do multiplayer is play-by-email. you save the game after your turn and then send it to your friend.

Nay, Vikky isn't good for MP. Too complicated.

It's great for single-player though. :)

In that case Victoria wouldn't be a good choice, as you will have to be online at the same time, and you'll have to be online for a long time as each game takes ages to complete :).

But get it anyway, forget about friends and play it alone :D
