I'm not a big fan of the pre determined traits & bonus' civs receive at the beginning of the game. It makes every game pretty much the same following the same 'cookie cutter' approach to victory. At least IMO - i know plenty disagree.
I was hoping someone would have made a mod by now that makes things more dynamic, where every civ is unique and develops throughout the map, not pre-determined at the beginning. What i mean is something similar to what Empire Earth has, for example, were you get to choose 6 of 12 available 'technologies' per epoche, excluding the rest, making your civ unique.
Or instead of beginning traits (remove them), the players/Ai get to choose certain bonus' along the tech tree at key points. For example, say you research construction, you can choose between say a +5% building contruction bonus or a +5% unit construction bonus. Or when researching Economics, get a +1 gold on plots producing 2 or more gold or decide to have -50% civic upkeep. One last example - Machinery -> Receive Free combat promotion for certain units or decide to give +50% to wonder production. I don't mean to make this sound balanced. This is just an example of the type of system i'd like to see. Many small decisions that give you bonus' throughout the game that define & make your civ truly unique - everytime you play.
One last thing i'd like to see is the unique unit being dependent (and assigned) whenever the player initiates a golden age. Whatever his most advanced tech is should have his most advanced unit replaced by whatever the current unique unit counterpart is.
I'm probably dreaming a bit to much by now, but i don't suppose anything remotely to what i'm looking for is available as a mod?
