Hi,

I would like to take a part in a MP game. I played a lot with AI but I am a newbie in MP. Does anyone plan to start a new PitBoss session ?

There are very few pitbosses starting up. Might take some time until you find one to join. You do know the difference between pitboss and normal mp right?

My understanding is that there are three types of MP games:
- each player saves the game after his turn ans sends it to other players per email
- playing "live", what means players play real time, games are not saved but played in one session
- pitboss games: somebody sets up a server; there is a timer; users don't need to sit in front of the monitor for the whole time, just make a turn till the timer expires

Is it right ?

yeah, yo uare right, the last one note is pitboss.
Pitboss is probably the best way of playing, but tehere are only few pibosses currently, and we have to wait until new come..

Yes, you got it. :) And looks like you might be in luck: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=298659

If you haven't played pitboss before though, I'd recommend reading up on some of the typical rules and conventions to get a feel for what will be expected (and what you can expect). For example:

http://www.chaosciv.com/index.php/topic,255.0.html (excepting the role playing part)

It might also be worthwhile trying to sub for an existing game to get a feel for what's involved before committing to a 1-2 year long game.. just in case. :)

Enjoy! :)

Unfortunately I could read the forum only now, it seems everything is set up there already.

Thanks again. But I didn't understand what "to sub" means. Can you explain it to me please ? Do you mean it is possible to follow an existing game, watching how others play or what ?

You can check out this http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=324 it is in pitboss format.

Oh, it looks interesting. I have to read more about it, though franlky speaking, I would prefer to play (at least my first MP game) as a single player not a member of a team. But it could be an option if there are so few pitboss games for single persons (what surprises me a lot...)

Sorry - it means to play as a substitute, for example if someone in an existing game is away on a trip, or is having computer problems, or goes absent from the game without notice for any reason. It's a good way to get an introduction to how pitboss works, and what's involved, before signing up full time (or hosting a game yourself).

A good bet for that may be to keep an eye on this forum for any new threads, and / or watch the threads for a couple of the ongoing games that are being tracked here.

Anyway, if I hear of anyone looking for a sub in any of my current games, I'll point them in your direction.

Cheers,
Munro

Thanks for your tips, guys. Please let me know if some of you hear about a replacement opportunity or (better) about a new game. Thanks again.

To be honest, I'm surprised there are so few MP games. I was pretty sure there must be dozens of them around the net and new sessions are being generated daily. After all there are a lot of civ fans, but don't they all play against their PCs, do they ?

there are more pitbosses getting started up at other forums too
that's as much as I know though, cant point you anywhere specific
