....and since I'm such a cheap bastard, it'll have to be free.

I'm looking for a program that'll show various system information on the desktop. I've already downloaded several, and none do quite what I want.

What I've downloaded:

BGInfo
System Samurize 1.6.1
Rainmeter
CoolMon 1 & 2
And a couple of others that I"ve deleted and forgotten about.

What I really want from it is the ability to change the desktop wallpaper to have the system info. BGInfo will do this, but only when I run it. I'd really like to see something run when windows boots and modifies the desktop wallpaper then. Probably BGInfo would do this, but I don't know how to get it to run when windows boots. Notice I'm saying when windows boots, not when I log into windows.

What exactly do you mean by "system information?" Temps, bus speeds...?

Probably BGInfo would do this, but I don't know how to get it to run when windows boots. Notice I'm saying when windows boots, not when I log into windows.

Start>Run enter regedit.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Once you've selected the the "run" key, right click in the window where the key data is shown, select New>String Value. Give it a name, then double click to open it and drop the path to the program's executable in the "value data" box, ie C:\Program Files\My Program\myprog.exe

I'm more interested in boot time, free disk space, ip address, free memory. BGInfo has a bunch of differen things it looks at and can display, and I'm rather happy with what it can display.

Will that run the program on power up, instead of when I log into windows?

Thanks for the response.

I *think* so, but I'm not positive.

Well, it didn't work out that way.

See, we've got a couple of servers that have some system information on the login screen. I was thinking that would be useful to have, because occasionally my system gets rebooted when I'm not around and I was curious to know when that was. As I took a closer look at it, I realized that the snapshot was from quite a while back...so it wasn't updating on boot.

I've got BGInfo (which seems to be the best so far) in the startup folder, so at least I'll have that information updated every time I log in.

Thanks again for the help.
