I am looking for a refurbished laptop, I would want one with XP (no Vista) and one that is fast enough to play Civ 3. My price range is preferably under 500 dollars.

Just for reference, you should be looking at something well under $500 if you're bothering to go used.

In general, laptops aren't great for gaming, but in the case of Civ being a strategy game, it should be okay. I don't think Civ3 even uses 3D graphics, does it? Anyways, might be a good idea to go with a slightly bigger one, not a tiny little netbook, it'd be easier to see.

Unless you have a specific software issue there is no reason to avoid Vista.

Vista is pointless on a laptop that weak. I know its good for a new pc thats relatively powerful, but on my dads laptop ( which has slightly better specs than the proposed one ) it ran like crap, even though it was home basic.

Were talking about the laptop Zelig linked to? That one is fine, 2GB RAM is good and a 2.16Ghz CPU is fine.
