Looking for Regular+Fun+Educational Game

I'm starting to tire playing AI over and over. I'm not learning anything on the higher difficulty levels except how to further exploit an inanimate object. I'd love to play against actual players who don't have to get super bonuses to beat me. I've only played Civ3 (conquests) once online and I somehow managed to win (all luck). Since my net is slow I think email would be the best choice for me as I also hate time limits. I've never played by email before though. How does it work and how long do they take? So, here's kind of what I'm looking for:

- A regular Civilization III Conquests game. No accelerated production or elimination or any of that stuff.
- Type of map doesn't matter to me.
- Regent difficulty or lower.
- Hopefully someone that could beat me very easily. I'd like to be able to learn.
- A "nice" person that can help me get better against human players.

Dogboy sounds like he fits with most of your criteria. But he might be a bit busy with many PBEM at the moment.
1 vs 1 PBEM can get a bit monotonous... IMHO. But if you don't mind more players, stick around as usually replacements are needed in some games, maybe this one for instance :

LouLong: Thanks for recommending me. Didn't think I would find this thread did ya? But LouLong is right, I am busy with my other games right now. I'm involved in 25 PBEMs at the moment and they keep me pretty busy. That and work, wife, kids, work around the house, etc...

Well, no I did know you could find this thread. I was just answering him by providing directions but maybe I took care of matters where I had no place.
On the other hand, you could have taken it as a compliment (as it was in a way) instead ... ;-)

More than 1 player sounds fine, but I would prefer to join a game at 4000BC instead of in the middle of it. I would end up messing up what the previous player was doing.

Dragonlor, if you want, maybe you, me and Pedders could go threesome on either a standard or large map pbem. I have quite a few pbems going, but none of them are epics. I usually play Monarch or Emperor (I typically crush monarch, emperor is another story).

Anyways, if you want to learn against human players, one of the really good methods is to disallow the spaceship and diplomatic victories. This is especially true about diplo victories.

BTW, you did not state it, but I have C3C 1.22. If you have a different version, then you will need to post that as 1.22 will upgrade any game and then refuse to play on earlier versions (might play on 1.20, but it's really buggy).

am on C3C 1.22 myself so no probs there.... Still only a monarch player myself. I like ur methods though, 'tis a good way to learn.

I'm sorry I did not reply sooner. I've gotten very busy the past couple days. I'd love to get a game going. I typically have a ton of time available to play but until Sunday/Monday I may be very busy. I don't know if anyone here wants to wait for me. I may be able to get a few turns in but there might be a couple day lag from friday morning until sunday whenever.

I would like to try either the Maya or Babylon (haven't played Babylon in a long, long time). Anyways, whatever I get will probably be ok with me. How about an Archipelago, 60 or 70 %water, Large map?

Monday sounds good. Ok, this is what I am thinking, let me know if anyone wants something else:

- Conquests 1.22
- Large map is fine
- Archipelago 60% is fine
- Wet, Warm, 4 Billion
- Roaming Barbarians
- Regent
- Random AIs to fill up slots till 8 players in the game

- I'll take Ottomans
- Pedders is China or Persia
- rcoutme is Maya or Babylon


And I don't care if I get slaughtered. I want to learn against human players.

Maybe play on Monarch if poss. Can win most times now on regent v ai. Monarch keeps u on ur toes

Am sweet with everything else. Havent palyed archipelago properly before. We can always play another after this one with diff settings. Should be a good game

Dragonlor, I don't want to give you unasked advice but if your point is to learn playing against humans, I would advise against archipelagos as considering the limited number of humans, you will probably have few encounters for a long time and the possibility of meeting humans early on is extremely low.

Well, looking at the way I've seen map generations, 60% archipelago seems to connect all the land in my games so it shouldn't be too bad.


I could play on Monarch but I may be squished by a computer player before I even find a human.


So is this still a 3 human game? What order are we going in?
